FWIW I voted you down because you made a post that was more or less guaranteed to start a flamewar, and only tangentially related to the OP.

I'd say it's more than tangentially related. The blog post is about Richard Stallman, his life, and his contributions; it seems strange to not acknowledge the recent controversy surrounding him.

Sure, so do it thoughtfully, not just throwing "Epstein", "Rogan" and "thoughtcrime" grenades and running away.

It's the first thing to omit, because in any other discussion about RMS it comes up anyway.

It's like making a video about the career of Mike Tyson and omit the ear-biting part. Wrong? No. It doesn't matter because everyone knows about that anyway.

We, the HN members, could try to have a discussion about this.

I’m not sure it would be fruitful though.

HN has already discussed this topic to death in thousands of comments across multiple years[1].

I have never seen anyone change anyone else's mind on this topic. It's just a flame/culture war. People join the discussion with a predetermined tribe and don't leave it.

Exactly.

> Thoughtcrime. Go ahead and vote me down.

Not exactly a call for a fruitful discussion.

Neither was the open letter.

Then you express that view in a civilized manner in your comment.

I go to Reddit for my flamewars.

Why put in the effort for people who don't even bother?

For the other users.
