Yes, this is something I have observed, for whatever reason sf-techies don't like capital letters or sentence case.

What a strange and yet seemingly juvenile choice.

I blame them every time someone calls me Lain.

before phone keyboards did it for you, caps required the shift key, which was utterly inefficient for real-time online discourse. and then those us who omitted the caps realized something: we dont need em

Funny that you got through that without the shift key, only to reach for it as the final character to use an emoticon.

interestingly, I also type ellipses as ".." because the third dot is irrelevant!

I use number of dots to indicate length of the pause. A transcription of how I would have said it aloud. I think my maximum is 4.

i do that too!

Way before phone keyboards even existed, we learned touch typing and thus can create grammatically correct sentences with proper punctuation every bit as fast as someone who is skipping those niceties. You're just putting lipstick on lazy. ;-)

Certainly a snarky feminist tumblr thing ca. 2010 before cool people all starting posting on their phones and everything became sentence case again
