Just a reminder that corporate structures are there to serve the scientists and engineers, not the other way around.

For OpenAI, their particular weird corporate structure was far too flawed.

The engineers and scientists will readily find another, and progress will continue.

Funny how you already speak in past tense, but I agree, OpenAI is likely the MySpace of this decade. Not least because of the name "GPT" alone.
