Designed by Mabel Addis and programmed by William McKay in a research project that started in 1964, The Sumerian Game is the granfather of today's strategy, management and simulation turn based games. Its source code was lost in the 70s but thanks to the game printouts and Richard Wing's notes it was possible to rebuild it.
The history of the game, how it was programmed, how it worked, who designed it and how it was possible to rebuild it from the printouts are the subject of a book: The Sumerian Game a Digital Resurrection.
