I imagine the calculation goes something like this:

* Benefit: Printers "Just Work", customers are pushed towards higher storage tiers where we have fantastically high margins

* Drawbacks: None

When people open up their brand-new Mac for the first time and look at available storage, they can be disappointed.

Only if they haven't already fainted twice just by the first two glances of the brand new Apple logo marking.
