I’d never tell people what to do with money or free time. If someone wants to build many apps to help them personally, all power to them.

I can’t imagine a worse hell in a team or collaborative setting though. Imagine (or you don’t have to imagine since it’s already happening) asking a coworker “how they check how feature X is doing in prod” and their answer isn’t a query (regardless of how long it is) or some slightly complicated script to run. Instead their answer is a 27k line custom Rust desktop app. Then 2 days later you discover that the big green “All Systems Operational” is just a bit of static text, and in fact not all systems are operational. The app just doesn’t check things correctly.

I don’t care much about both. Just like to be doing something useful for a change (I did a PhD before this).
