It's a tool, and it's a tool that lets you skip that parts that bore you. For most devs, they never cared about the craft--they copy and pasted whatever they could from the internet until they had something good enough. People cut corners, always have. I got into programming at 10 because I really liked knowing how my computer worked and being able to do/make anything on it. That hasn't changed with AI, but it sure as hell has made tinkering a lot easier. No more wondering if a proc I've never seen before should be on my system. No more hunting down config docs for my editor. All of that annoying grunt work that got in the way of me actually coding is something an agent handles for me in the background. The part I did--and still do--like? I can do that by hand if I want and when I get bored or fatigued I can swap to AI.
There are so many corpo slopcannon's in this thread whose minds are slaves to KPIs and productivity. Let it go bro. Relax and live a little. There's nothing wrong with writing code by hand in your own time or using AI. If you enjoy writing code, solving all the individual problems and getting your hands dirty, you should keep doing so! It's only a matter of months, year over year, where all of the vibe coders' real knowledge evaporates and they're slaves to their subscription (or local hardware, say less king). You can be an expert who codes when there's no internet. I know I wouldn't know nearly as much if I hadn't spent so many years actually writing code. You understand taking your time and exercising discipline is just as valid of a path.
I don't understand all of these developers I see who are so hostile to people who still like the craft. It's such cope, bro. Either admit you don't get it and that you're a tasteless little slopboi who would never have amounted to anything meaningful because he doesn't have the discipline to actually learn to code. Or, get over yourself and let people enjoy things. Nobody cares about your holy quest to advocate for another subscription.
