Americans are spending more on cars because Americans love cars/trucks and treat them as status symbols. Whenever I go to Europe on vacation, I see European families using small, affordable hatchbacks. They’re physically similar in size to Americans and so it’s not that Americans need massive vehicles because we are just larger.
