Yes but it's not correct to say the apps are being blocked either. There is still a way to install them. You can also use adb directly.

Those things are not remotely comparable

It's like how saying the best way to avoid STDs is to not have sex, like the best way to avoid ski injuries is to not go skiing. Even though they're not remotely comparable (sex and skiing), the comparison holds in that neither offers practical advice to avoid the injury.

it's maybe histronic, but definitely drives home their point

It is silly catastrophizing that makes a mockery of their point. Nobody is dying, nobody even has to wait 24 hours. You can simply install via ADB. At worst, this is a minor inconvenience.

> Calling that an opt-out is so rich, like calling suicide an opt-out method. 24 hour waiting period to do something on a device I own.

What?

You only have to change that setting once, and you can do it in advance (before the restriction takes effect). So you don't even have to wait 24 hours at all.

I can see this change having negative effects on the android ecosystem, but the direct impact on your freedom to install apps on your device is basically zero. If that's not the case, please tell me what I've missed.

you don't think they're going to yank that option away in, say, a year? or make it even more onerous, like "you have to send us a letter saying you want to develop apps"
