No there wasn't. Literally nobody worries about the ethical concern of putting people out of work when they do the work more efficiently.

Given that that's all anyone talks about for at least several decades I don't think it's "nobody"

talk =/= worry

only people who are directly impacted by an aspect of automation worry about it, everyone else either doesn't care or is quite happy even as they talk about how bad it is.
