When the price of fuel goes up, American oil companies make more money.

That same government turned EVs into a cultural issue, so I doubt that would happen.

The government is also trying to sell regular Americans paying a handful of oil companies a lot more money for gas, and the subsequent increase in profits for those oil companies, as a huge win for America.

The government is doubling down on helping their big oil buddies/donors.
