I just did a bunch of Craigslist searches and verified that the apartments looked nice.

I didn't say Mitte, though, but close to Mitte. Central areas like Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg.

Of course there is the problem that a lot of scammers use Craigslist and those apartments don't really exist.

Yeah, and Prenzlauer Berg is actually quite gentrified (staying there for the second time now). It's full of middle-class professional families with children.
