0bytes··on New 14‑inch MacBook Pro with M6
Not Linux, the X Window System. The first implementation in a window manager predates Linux by a couple of years. And to no surprise Xerox had them first
0bytes··on Celebrating 70 Years of Fortran
It’s not Fortran style, but the code of the original Bourne shell is a remarkable piece. “How to write Algol in C”
0bytes··on Show HN: Honorfit – a pushup app blocker for your phone
It is absolutely my thing! If you are interested, have a look at https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/s/EVW8u8yx9w It links to a video that for my personal taste does the whole movement too quick. I stay longer in both end positions and do a slower ascent and descent. Anyways, great idea, and I hope you stay healthy and uninjured!
0bytes··on Show HN: Honorfit – a pushup app blocker for your phone
I do appreciate the fun aspect! But… pushups aren’t meant to be done in bulk. This almost certainly leads to wrong technique and that can seriously harm your shoulders.
0bytes··on You can run Git on object storage if you re-make packfiles

Adrian Tchaikovsky’s “Children of Time” is net optimistic.

0bytes··on Upcoming election could produce modern Germany's first far-right state governor
They will blame it on somebody else, federal government, the “old parties”, the “lying press”, immigrants, the “eco fascists”, the EU, … They found their niche being the victims
0bytes··on Germany's far-right AfD projected to win
I fully agree, but I think you forgot social media as a catalyst. People being trapped in echo chambers. AfD (and all the associated conspiracy theorists) are classical con men.
0bytes··on Germany's far-right AfD projected to win
Merz is von Papen 2.0. The same arrogance and overestimation of himself, a textbook old white man.
0bytes··on Germany's far-right AfD projected to win
Calling it a cult fits quite well. Like Trump supporters, AfD can do anything. They do a different style of politics? Sure, they aren’t like the “old parties”, their budget is projected to have a 2 billion deficit? But the “old parties” are increasing the debt as well. Arguments are bent beyond recognition. Facts don’t matter. The term “pigeon chess” was coined for taking with AfD: while you comply to the strict rules of the game, the pigeon just randomly moves pieces, throwing some off, and shits on the board.
0bytes··on Burnt out on a three-day week
Not hard data: ChatGPT and Gemini both say that the article sounds like written by a human most likely with AI assistance.

Doesn’t mean it’s not an ad for coaching. I share your sentiment. (So do ChatGPT and Gemini, they also agree that the article sounds like an ad)

0bytes··on Forgotten History of Small Nuclear Reactors (2015)
The power plant is in a very rural area with estimations of 100 people per square kilometer. Tokai Daini is in an area with approx 10 times the people compared to Fukushima. It’s only 8 meters above sea level and it’s also in risk of a tsunami in general. From my point of view that’s not an argument for the safety of nuclear power but more a “it didn’t happen this time”
0bytes··on Forgotten History of Small Nuclear Reactors (2015)
And the waste, and the environmental impact on fuel mining, and the deconstruction, and the inherent risks, but otherwise yes, it’s great!
0bytes··on Forgotten History of Small Nuclear Reactors (2015)
And yet there are still occasional accidents. 51 in 2025. Which end tragic in aviation but are so much more severe for nuclear power plants.
0bytes··on Forgotten History of Small Nuclear Reactors (2015)
How much wiser do we need to be to build a large number of nuclear reactors? How much safer is each one compared to a larger one to justify the risk of building more items that can end in a disaster? And aren’t large reactors quite uneconomical already? How much worse do small ones operate, given the economy of scale. Nuclear power just didn’t deliver what it promised.

The uranium mines of the GDR resulted in 311 million cubic meters of mine waste. In 2005 for the the remediation 13.75 million liters of Diesel fuel were used. The costs so far have been 7.4 billion €. About 20 Billion € were invested in nuclear plants that never produced any power (or in one case was shut down after 100 days) in Germany. Add the costs of deconstruction of the existing plants. The whole narrative of cheap power is nothing but a house of cards.

It can also mean anesthetics, which coincidentally would include cocaine as a strong local anesthetic, but not a narcotic in the pharmacological sense.
