0x59··on First atmosphere found on Earth-like planet in habitable zone of distant star
I wouldn't bet on and as I understand theory allows a shorter routes. Major caveat is weve never observed them and their existence doesn't guarantee they're traversible.

What's exciting to me is that the existence of such a planet provides fuel for more research into the field.

0x59··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
Arguing that broadband internet saves lives reminds me of the argument that Jesus saves lives and the love of Jesus must be spread around the world.
0x59··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
How could this not end poorly? I cant think of one realistic scenario where there world benefits.
0x59··on The glass backbone: Why the Army's logistics will break in the next war
WWII? Fabius did this to Hannibal more than a thousand years ago. The core of his strategy was to dunk on supplies, stall, and have the Carthaginians run out of food.

I imagine Iran, Ukraine, and Russia all know about Fabian strategy.

Speculation: It probably is just for money. Then the ppl buying, at least some of them, are likely to be engaging in the type of activity described.
0x59··on Show HN: Jobs Core API – structured job data from 9,800 feeds, without scraping
Hi HN,

I built Trace Jobs Core API, a data API for querying job postings from structured machine-readable sources.

You can try it immediately with the sandbox command: https://kaleh.net/trace/#trynow

It returns current job data without requiring an account.

I built this because job data ingestion tends to become the same maintenance problem repeatedly:

- scraping HTML pages

- fixing parsers after frontend changes

- mapping inconsistent fields

- deduplicating the same postings across sources

Trace takes a different approach.

It ingests public machine-readable job feeds, translates them into a consistent format, and exposes the records through an API.

The core idea is: do not guess.

If a source provides a structured field, we normalize it where the mapping is clear. If a field is ambiguous or unavailable, the original value is preserved.

The goal is clean, predictable data without forcing our own interpretation layer into the pipeline.

No scraping. No LLM extraction. No inferred metadata. No rewriting upstream intent.

Current index:

- 9,800+ structured feeds

- ~13k new postings/day

- daily refresh at 06:00 UTC

- Schema.org JobPosting records

- SHA-256 deduplication

- RFC 8785 canonicalization

Examples with real daily-refreshed HTML and JSON responses: https://kaleh.net/trace/examples.html

API documentation: https://kaleh.net/trace/docs.html

I’d appreciate feedback from anyone interested in the problem and especially people who have built:

- job boards and aggregators

- labor market analytics tools

- search/RAG systems

- data ingestion pipelines

Especially interested in how others approach source reliability, normalization, and preserving meaning when upstream data is inconsistent.

A note of thanks: this project exists because of the support of my family and friends, the people I've learned from in IRC communities, and the broader open source community. I am grateful to everyone who builds, maintains, documents, and shares the tools and standards that make projects like this possible.

I’ll be around to answer questions.

0x59··on 'Ghost jobs' could soon be illegal in New York
I'm just about to launch a job posting data api with postings I aggregate and very lightly normalize (https://kaleh.net/trace)

Anyone have an idea how this might impact me? They're not my postings, I just package em up and ship em. Strive to comply with all laws and TOS and not trying to make trouble.

0x59··on Russian artist and Putin critic shot dead in Poland
I'm just saying I don't yet have enough information to make up my mind. Take your name calling to Reddit.
0x59··on Russian artist and Putin critic shot dead in Poland
headline makes it seem obvious who did it, but he didn't fall out of a window... so I'm going to wait for an investigation before I make up my mind

So this could be used as a streamlined way for client devices (mobile phones for example) to phone home to servers (google.com for example) with user data and bypass some local network controls? (DNS block lists, for example)

Is there an android SDK available?

0x59··on Arch Linux Now Believes Malware Incident Under Control: More Than 1,500 Packages
looks like I installed a package 3 weeks before it was comprised. I try to limit surface area as much as possible, and this package seemed to be required for a project I'm working on. (turns out it wasn't, but i didn't know that yet)
0x59··on Car headlights don't have to be this blinding
Lol, I forgot most ppl have electronic, motorized, smart mirrors. Here I am bringing my manual mirror bias to the table thinking that ppl set their mirrors by hand.
0x59··on Car headlights don't have to be this blinding
Blindzone Glare Elimination Method can help address some of this

https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/blindzoneglaremi...

It doesn't help at all with head on traffic, but glare via my side mirrors has been reduced greatly since I implemented this.

Why would you buy my new game if you're spending all your attention on the one I sold you 10 years ago?
0x59··on The gamers taking on the industry to stop it switching off games
I think this is the root of it and what the article describes in the first half. I suspect owning a copy of a game will soon be completely eliminated and replaced w the subscription model. Then when subscription dollars stop flowing, the company naturally winds down the service.
