3dsnano··on On A.I. regulation and messaging
i’m all for ambition and tenacity, but this is psychopath level communication… blissfully unaware, simply incapable of reading the room

if claude still can’t yet write and refactor coherent code (on its own, replacing software engs, just like he said last year), why would we expect it to… fucking cure cancer?

3dsnano··on Prevent cognitive debt by manually retyping LLM-generated code
“prevent cognitive debt by manually setting type.”

we need to move on

3dsnano··on Ask HN: How do you do marketing in the age of slop?
agree with the premise here (distribution is hard; get users or die) BUT there's no better marketing than a GOOD product that brings people real VALUE

get a 1000 users to your site → 1% conversion → 10 users. if those 10 users have a shitty experience because the product SUCKS, then all of that effort getting them there was wasted.

the alternative is making a GOOD product that people actually WANT to use and can get EXCITED about. you keep it SMALL and work with a limited subset of people who are interested in what you have and are willing to try it in exchange for the PROMISE that it will bring them VALUE. if (and only if) you can truly deliver value for this small group, their excitement and optimism WILL radiate outward. from there, it's about surfing these small waves, paying close attention, and very carefully choosing bigger and bigger waves to surf.

as softwarians we MUST make GOOD products that people WANT to use!!!!! throwing away money on advertisements until you have anything GOOD is a waste of time and effort.

3dsnano··on Ask HN: What was your "oh shit" moment with GenAI?
turtles all the way down

3dsnano··on Ask HN: Is Anybody Using Codex?
start with claude

use it 2 make the plan

use it 2 implement

when u hit the limit switch 2 codex

use codex to code review the implementation

never ask codex to implement its own feedback (wait for claude)

go between codex (review) and claude (respond 2 review with changes) until u get no issues found

then u commit

and greptile will maybe complain

use /greploop to close greptile gripes

winning

friends, WHEN you are asked to implement something like this at your job, which will you choose: object (& hold ground, loose job) OR comply (& keep job)

as practitioners, where do we hold the line between telemetry and surveillance?

3dsnano··on ChatGPT Images 2.0
what’s the difference between those two? how can you say one has more value than the other?
3dsnano··on ChatGPT Images 2.0
absolutely without a doubt it is

likely an intra-US op ordered by Hegseth to punish anthropic for having a backbone and not making claude shoot bombs or do mass surveillance.

3dsnano··on Ask HN: What's the current best local/open speech-to-speech setup?

thanks for sharing your knowledge; can’t wait to try out your voice plugin

3dsnano··on Gas Town Decoded
yes, and Yegge + Huntley are doing it in an fun and creative way, breaking rules that make folks really mad and huffy puffy. this is a renaissance to those who can see it, those who drink the koolaid willingly, because it makes you trip balls and come up with crazy ideas... just like Hypercard...

why do we drink it? because its awesome and makes software 100X more FUN than it used to be. what yegge + huntley are doing is intensely creative. they are having FUN. and i am have FUN!!!!!

3dsnano··on Gas Town Decoded
yes, totally. AI-luddites see this as whimsy, but it's actually wizard-level power of abstractions and context ascension. if u know u know
3dsnano··on Ask HN: What non-LLM tools have meaningfully improved your dev productivity?
deep listening... the willingness to observe and feel without needing to judge or react!!!!
3dsnano··on Claude Code CLI was broken
this is a lazy take. all software has bugs and defects.

part of what we do, as developers is to learn. to have an open mind to new tools and technologies.

these tools are… different, they’re changing the world (fast), and worth trying to understand. your mental rigidity to doing things “the right way” will hold you back and limit your growth. the world is changing. are you?

3dsnano··on Andrej Karpathy: Software in the era of AI [video]
> And what is "real quality" and does that mean "fake quality" exists?

I think there is no real quality or fake quality, just quality. I am referencing the quality that Persig and C. Alexander have written about.

It’s… qualitative, so it’s hard to measure but easy to feel. Humans are really good at perceiving it then making objective decisions. LLMs don’t know what it is (they’ve heard about it and think they know).

3dsnano··on The Case for Software Craftsmanship in the Era of Vibes
agree that we (users, humans, customers) all are desperately reaching for something steady, well designed, rugged.

something that people thought about for longer than whatever the deadline they had to work on it. something that radiates the care and human compassion they put into their work.

we all want and need this quality. it is harder to pull off these days for a lot of dumb reasons. i wish we all cared enough to not make it so mysterious, and that we could all rally around it, celebrate it, hold it to high regard.

3dsnano··on Apple's Liquid Glass UI marks the end of flat design
It’s the same old shit that no one wants. It divides us into two camps and we all take shots at each other about some pointless UI fashion.

This argument is tired and worn out. Fuck it. Grow up, use a computer as a bicycle, don’t worry about whateverthefuck color it is.

3dsnano··on Mikeal Rogers has died
I had the chance to work with Mikeal in the early node days. He gave me, a weird designer type, the opportunity to make something cool with node. I will always remember him as kind, curious, and optimistic.

What a creative soul. Thank you Mikeal.

3dsnano··on Ask HN: What is something you deeply care about?
Feeling
3dsnano··on Precious Plastic is in trouble
their work to date seems like 100K well spent on trying something very few other people would even attempt, no less take it as far as they did.

i'm not sure if people here comprehend how much work it is to do and sustain something like this for almost a decade. a lot of the work is niche community-building, it's a hard slog fought one workshop at a time. its like herding idealistic cats, not easy. i will always appreciate those who hold the line and choose to die on weird hills like this.

while i commend them on their work to date, it's clear that this is a hard problem to solve within our current socio-economic environment. after all, plastic is around us, within us, and inevitably part of us now. as humans we need to stop burying it and confront what we are doing.
