AgentME··on Software may be getting worse, but it used to be horrible
I believe that's usually caused by a lot of random software deciding to hook the Windows Explorer right-click menu so it can decide whether to add menu items to it, possibly doing slow file IO and running serially with every other hook. (I blame Windows for allowing this and not making it more apparent to users what software is slowing it down.)
AgentME··on Twelve years of distributed SQLite
It's loaded with it to my eyes. (Pangram also agrees and flags the whole post as AI generated.)

  # 2014: rqlite
  The need was concrete.

  # Before 2014, and alongside it
Two things deserve mention for honesty’s sake.
(the above line is extremely typical of Claude Opus 4.8 and 5.0)

[...] and the main difference is of one of packaging:

  # What the twelve years show
  Three things, I think.
The core was right. [...] Nobody has found a reason to stop doing it.
The design space has three corners, and they appeared in order.
(What order? The corners of this design space, which aren't spelled out until the following sentence, don't have any other natural ordering. This type of misapplied flourish feels very typical of LLMs.)
AgentME··on Twelve years of distributed SQLite
The comparisons between various projects, including between rqlite and Litestream, were interesting. (rqlite uses a consensus algorithm between nodes to keep them synced and allow changing the primary node, while Litestream just syncs itself to S3 so another node could take over with the data from there.)

I fully expected the article to get into D1 shortly and mention how that's about the same relationship between Cloudflare Durable Objects (which D1 is based on) and celld, an open source reimplementation of Cloudflare Durable Objects which writes to S3. But then the article treats D1 with a very sudden snarky disinterest, and then the final section feels very awkwardly defensive of rqlite and defeatist.

AgentME··on The Mathocalypse
I don't think Aaronson's post is swiping at AI doomers at all. The post's one use of "doom" is to call the position that math doesn't matter and that AI will never breach the realm of true human creativity as a "doomed worldview". The post later praises Scott Alexander's argument (for taking AI x-risk seriously, a position associated with "AI doomers") against Pinker.
AgentME··on Friendship ended with Deno, now Node is my best friend
While I'm at it, I forgot to mention the built-in formatter (deno fmt) is great too. I use Prettier in other projects and it's also great in those projects, but it's tiring that it's yet another dependency to remember to add and configure in a new node project.
AgentME··on Friendship ended with Deno, now Node is my best friend
Deno is still an easy pick for me because of its built-in test-runner (deno test), linter (deno lint), and type checker (deno check). I've used many different npm packages for these things in previous projects and I have no idea what the new hotness and proper configuration is for all of these things in a new node project, so I really value the simplicity of Deno for it all. Also JSR and Deno for publishing Typescript libraries is still so much easier than setting up a Typescript node project and configuring it to publish compiled code, and it gets you documentation pages generated from your tsdoc comments too, which I never knew how to do outside of JSR.
AgentME··on Memory-Safe WebP Decoding
That would likely require copying the image data in and out of the wasm instance's memory, while a pure Rust solution could have safety with less overhead.
AgentME··on Claude Opus 5.5
If they think they might be better than alignment than others and everyone else isn't stopping, then continuing makes sense.
AgentME··on Java 27
That's about letting you do Expression<int>, not about removing type erasure or otherwise allowing overloads based on type parameters.
AgentME··on We must pace the frontier
Today we prompt software developers to "think about ways to improve AI's architecture" and it results in AI getting better. AI over the last year has made very rapid gains in filling the role of a software developer.
AgentME··on The Hugging Face incident and the road ahead
> 4. After knowing that the server was hacked, the internal team finds the message board and does nothing with the information. They caught their AIs swarming and did not even inform management.

I believe Sam Altman or someone else from OpenAI clarified on Twitter that they did not find the message board at this time. When the artifactory server stopped working, they archived its contents, reset it, resumed training, and only later noticed that it had been used as a message board after they finally discovered the hacking going on.

AgentME··on Black hole singularity is a surface not a point
If outside observers could watch the astronaut clearly, the astronaut would look like they're slowing down to a stop at the event horizon. The astronaut would not see themselves freezing in time, but they would see everything outside of the black hole speed up.

You could travel arbitrarily far into the future by getting close to a black hole's event horizon for a while without crossing it and then leaving, assuming you had the energy for it and you didn't get obliterated by all the mass and energy falling into the black hole in that timeframe.

AgentME··on Cursor launches Origin, GitHub alternative
Is non-self-hosting available for all of those things on Tangled? I don't want to run my own CI but I do want CI. I couldn't figure out if it was available last time I looked at Tangled.
AgentME··on Gloomberb
A command line tool in a non-compiled language is still much better than an network-connected tool in a non-memory-safe language.
AgentME··on Learning more about Claude's mathematical capabilities
This argument also proves that climate change and nuclear war aren't possible existential issues.
AgentME··on Quake – 30th Anniversary Update
>PROTIP: Install the Kex-engine remaster, but then

You should rephrase this as just "Install Quake on Steam, but then" for newcomers who need this advice to be able to understand it.

AgentME··on Quake – 30th Anniversary Update
They need changes to support it, but I don't expect it to take long. Both vkQuake and IronWail work well with the previous new official episode (Dimension of the Machine) and the remastered models after they were updated for that.
AgentME··on Quake – 30th Anniversary Update
It's for people who own the original game on Steam or one of the other supported digital storefronts.
AgentME··on Cloudflare OS: an open platform for agents, apps, and work
This is exciting! I've loved the idea of Durable Objects but I've disliked that there's no existing way to use them while scaling to multiple machines outside of Cloudflare.
AgentME··on The Valley of Webhooks
The Gmail API works nicely like this. There's a history.list endpoint where you can see the recent history of message additions and removals, you can query for just the history that's taken place since a specific event's historyId, and you can subscribe to push notifications (that can be delivered by webhook) which just tell you when there are new history events, and you're expected to hit the history.list endpoint to see what's new. Some dropped push notifications aren't a big deal.
AgentME··on Xbox goes down. You can't play games you own on disc
MCC and Xbox Live on Windows have been exactly this jank at least since MCC's Windows release in 2019.
AgentME··on Terence Tao's ChatGPT conversation about the Jacobian Conjecture counterexample
That's just defining intelligence or consciousness as whatever we specifically can't put in a machine. It's not a very useful definition. (And it's one that completely breaks down to nothing if we do manage to fully put these things into machines or somehow prove it's possible.)
AgentME··on Terence Tao's ChatGPT conversation about the Jacobian Conjecture counterexample
Oh, GPT-3.5, recognizable in so many old screenshots by the green icon. If ever a popular model deserved the term "stochastic parrot", it was GPT-3.5. I wonder what percentage of people today still base their opinions of AI capabilities on their experiences with that model. That model was the only option for free ChatGPT users for the first year and a half of ChatGPT's existence, from November 2022 to May 2024.
AgentME··on Who's afraid of Chinese models?
What do you find worse about it? I've been switching between it, Codex, and Claude Code to try to compare them, and my only conclusion so far has been that it's nice that Copilot has both OpenAI and Anthropic models as options.
AgentME··on That post never existed. Stop listening to that thing
If a tool getting a URL wrong sometimes was a fatal issue, I would have written off using Google, forums, and my keyboard years ago.
AgentME··on Astro 7.0
The AI Enhancements section was interesting. I've been wondering about the best practices for agents interacting with long-running dev servers, and Astro 7's approach (run in background and have a logs command) seems like a good model.
AgentME··on Tacky men with ridiculous glasses want you to wear them too
Is the phone's camera more privacy-preserving than the glasses's camera?
AgentME··on Show HN: Are You in the Weights?
Of these models, only Kimi had anything on me and it was pretty inaccurate.

When Fable was accessible, I asked it about myself and it had some accurate information about me. It's neat. It feels a tiny bit like I got to sign the Voyager probe. I wonder if Fable was trained on a significantly different selection of data or if it's just better at retaining rare details it saw in its training.

AgentME··on The Korean telecom giant at the center of Anthropic's Mythos controversy
Is there any interpretation where Amazon is involved but for a reason besides trying to screw over Anthropic? I don't see why Amazon would act against Anthropic when they have a deal to offer Anthropic models on AWS.
AgentME··on Show HN: Are You in the Weights?
You can be in the weights if you make those things true.
