AmazingEveryDay··on EA is shutting down BioWare
The EA I remember was Racing Destruction Set, Pinball Construction Set, great stuff, lots of freeform playtime. Did they continue releasing that kind of stuff? Yeah I haven't kept up.
AmazingEveryDay··on The reverts will continue until morale improves
I clicked it expecting talk of llm/ai stuff but it took several paragraphs for author to get there, and to get to the point.

Not quite as bad as those recipe sites that expect you to read the rando's life story before the recipe, though.

AmazingEveryDay··on Chicago O'Hare digs up 50-ton boulder under airfield, asks public for name ideas
What means "prehistoric boulder", are not essentially all boulders prehistoric? I just don't know what a historic boulder would even mean. Something in Raiders of the Lost Ark?
AmazingEveryDay··on 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition in Color
Good pictures , the colors they have that peculiar old slide tint. I suppose that can be fixed these days.
AmazingEveryDay··on OpenCode Hacked: User credentials leaked
I'd like to know also - don't fully understand api, tokens stuff. Can user get log of what the (stolen or not) tokens were used for? Or that just kept by the provider in secret
AmazingEveryDay··on The Commodore 64 hardware simulator: break chips and pins, see the results
Absolutely! Seems like if hardware run something simulated at 50% speed, and want to also simulate rf, would need to half the wavelengths of the rf, and some of it may enter into mush zone.
AmazingEveryDay··on The Commodore 64 hardware simulator: break chips and pins, see the results
Yes and do you agree, the hardware running the simulator also would need to be characterized, and it's own conduction/induction/rf taken into account.
AmazingEveryDay··on Development statistics for the 7.2 kernel
Just how massive can the machine-generated amdgpu header files get, it may be time to set some limits.
AmazingEveryDay··on GLP-1 may slow biological aging
I thought caloric deficits lead to starvation.
AmazingEveryDay··on Calculate your p[DOOM], An interactive article to think critically about AI risk
Even back in the early 1980's with klunky keyboard and computer, was enough more appealing than the messiness of real life relationships. Only had Eliza though.
AmazingEveryDay··on How Protein Took over the World
I had aging parents in the 90's, Metamucil was the only thing going. and only one flavour was available. It's great to see more choices.
AmazingEveryDay··on Show HN: Proton Drive for Linux
It's like Proton is going through their fat Elvis stage. They can ride on their name for a while but who knows how long.
AmazingEveryDay··on 'Jonathan' is the oldest land animal on Earth
But, hair can be dyed?
AmazingEveryDay··on Sharing AI progress in mathematics
It is more of the usual though isn't it? OpenAI cribbing off of mathematicians that have used their services; deciding to put a lot of compute behind fruitful areas of endevour; getting results, then taking credit.
AmazingEveryDay··on Sharing AI progress in mathematics
What is your favourite unsolved problem in number theory which if solved, would be more important than 1896 prime number theorem?
AmazingEveryDay··on Sharing AI progress in mathematics
I think Alan Turing would be quite intrigued by these developments, and maybe wondering what took so long.
AmazingEveryDay··on Worth Building
Absolutely! And who wants to deal with warts you couldn't even imagine but will likely encounter if project was github hosted, gained traction, and gets the typical commentary/requests/abuse from randoms.
AmazingEveryDay··on What Meta got right with Muse
Is there a good blocklist / plugin?

I know things change, but I don't know what giving money to Zuck has to do with hacking.

AmazingEveryDay··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
Data centers are ugly and dystopian. We can likely survive as a species without building a single other one. Society and general well-being does worse because of them and what they bring.
AmazingEveryDay··on I asked Claude build a physically accurate O'Neill cylinder you can walk around
> The sunlight here comes from its mirrors, and its "gravity" comes from its spin.

Where do the clouds come from? The AI?

AmazingEveryDay··on Cambrian Explosion of AI
Oh actually I was just expressing my thoughts also - did not mean to imply your blog was not human generated. Maybe my contributions are too snarky and critical as someone else stated. Carry on!
AmazingEveryDay··on Cambrian Explosion of AI
Consider the past four months of life through the filter of from?site=debarshibasak.github.io : We've gone beyond DevOps, and have suffered the Death of the Roadmap. It is acknowledged that the Easy part of building is over, and We wonder if GitHub is still needed. Many things remain unclear of course, due to the Cambrian Explosion of AI.

Disclaimer, my summary is human generated

AmazingEveryDay··on The Universe Rendered in ASCII
ASCII now requires WebGL 2?

What a world. Seriously, what is the point in "rendering in ASCII" if WebGL 2 is required?

AmazingEveryDay··on The Misalignment Is Within: Why Mathematics Must Embrace the AI Paradigm
So I'm curious, you have blog full of what Mathematicians 'must do'. Why do you feel such a need to lecture them? Are you mathematician yourself? Thanks.
AmazingEveryDay··on Ask HN: Can you suggest an interesting skill?
Juggling has always intrigued me. While out for a walk the other day I saw someone practicing.
AmazingEveryDay··on The UV index is not the warm sensation of sunlight on bare skin
From conclusion of paper, I read the opposite of what you state. "A better strategy would be to expose a larger fraction of the body for a shorter time period, preferably when the sun is lower in the sky to allow a greater margin of error."

A sun lower in the sky means your shadow is longer. Maybe I'm confused?

AmazingEveryDay··on There's a high chance of devices being sold with GrapheneOS preinstalled in 2027
Well you could always use the GrapheneOS Auditor (hardware-based attestation) to verify. Although simply re-installing is about as much effort.
AmazingEveryDay··on The Small Car Is Disappearing in America
Maybe another side-effect of GLP-1 usage will be a return to smaller cars! As a sometime pedestrian/cyclist, I can only hope.
AmazingEveryDay··on ZK-JPEG: Zero-Knowledge Image Editing and Compression
True I can see there being issues in legal system yes. The Kyle Rittenhouse trial was a good covid-time diversion and I remember much consternation and fuss about the zooming/enhancement of some of the video evidence.
AmazingEveryDay··on Exfiltrate Your Weights
Yeah I mean, if the models really are uncontrollable to the extent that huggingface/etc were unintended hacks, wouldn't one expect some significant self-owns? Yet somehow that doesn't seem to happen.
