AndrewDucker··on $2.5T has been wiped from US stocks
That's not market manipulation. That's thinking "There's going to be a crash in the next couple of months, if it goes up to $x then I'll take the profits and cash out"
AndrewDucker··on No brother of mine will play the flute
There is no "place" reserved for theoretical (or actual) sons (or other children).

Your children will exist. They will have no children. But these two facts will have little to no intersection with each other, other than your comment above (which doesn't appear to have any purpose other than to attempt to make someone else feel bad about their choices.)

AndrewDucker··on Opus 5.5 causing an identity crisis is real
If you still want to use maths and science in the service of society then you've been handed a massive multiplier. Learn to use it and be better in using it than others.
AndrewDucker··on OpenAI and Anthropic cut their LLM prices by up to 80% within a few months. Why?
Is that revenue or profit?
AndrewDucker··on Anthropic S-1
That link isn't working for me.
AndrewDucker··on A Markdown File Should Just Open
I use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/markdown-read... and so, for me, they do render natively.
AndrewDucker··on My Neighbor, Me, and a Grand Principle
Same. A person expressing something they learned which made them happy and which they wanted to share with the world.
AndrewDucker··on Super Intelligence
The ability to create models based on observations and then use those models to make predictions.
AndrewDucker··on Is MCP becoming the common foundation of smart, decentralised search?
We run AI inside VMs that are only given tightly controlled access to our internal servers. Routing calls through MCPs that only allow specific access lets us keep things secure for servers that don't allow that fine control through the API.
AndrewDucker··on Banks are now trying to offload the AI data center debt they just underwrote
Same here in the UK.
AndrewDucker··on Redesigning source control at Anthropic
You review their actions.
AndrewDucker··on I wish you the best in the Offline
I'm on Dreamwidth. I have regular conversations with a variety of people who I've known for years, many of whom I have no idea what their real identity is. There is almost no spam, because the site owners take spam seriously, and also because you get total control over what you see.
AndrewDucker··on Talorys – A self-hosted personal AI agent on Cloudflare's free tier
Then explain what the problem is, in clear language. Otherwise the person reading your response is going to take away only the message that you're a bit of an arse, and have no actual point to make.
AndrewDucker··on My static site was serving my internal docs
I see we're repeating the mistakes of the 90s.
AndrewDucker··on Why are coding agents so dumb?
The source doesn't contain the actual model.

Fired OpenAI researchers say they were let go for 'prioritising safety'

AndrewDucker··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
True. We very much value time over owning things that require that much maintenance. If your preference is the other way round I could see it taking up much more time (and you getting, presumably, more joy from your clothes. Most of the joy I get from clothes is from t-shirt designs. YMMV.)
AndrewDucker··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
There are four of us. It takes me 5 minutes to gather everything up and put it in the washing machine, 3 minutes to transfer it to the dryer when it's done, and ten minutes to separate it out and drop it in the right drawers when dry. That happens 3-4 times a week. Say 60-80 minutes total per week.
AndrewDucker··on Sales of sub-€25,000 electric car models set to rise sevenfold
I do ¾ of those things, including two children and a wife, without a car.
AndrewDucker··on Amazon seeks to offload $8B of Nvidia chips to investors
It's a reference to The Big Short, where Selena Gomez guested to explain Credit Default Swaps.

(If you haven't seen it, you might think I'm joking. I'm not, and it's an amazing film.)

AndrewDucker··on Git 3.0's upcoming SHA-256 default will be a costly mistake
1x10^77 is a lot of pigeon holes.
AndrewDucker··on Git 3.0's upcoming SHA-256 default will be a costly mistake
Unless you link using tags.
AndrewDucker··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Part of the effect of spending time around other people is that you get to know them, discover which ones aren't creepy, and develop connections with them. And, over the age of 25, the personal connection starts to matter more and more for people than "Are they hot or not?"
AndrewDucker··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
See my response to the similar reply at the top of the thread
AndrewDucker··on CS240 AI Cheating Retrospective
The job-getting paper ceases to be meaningful if it no longer verifies competence. If it merely verifies the ability to prompt an LLM then nobody will pay a premium for people have it, and then nobody will pay to obtain one.
AndrewDucker··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
It will. But having watched the video, I can tie one faster and cheaper. This week. Next week, who knows?
AndrewDucker··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
How are your plumbing skills?
AndrewDucker··on We’re forgetting what darkness feels like
Kids these days don't even know what a channel is ;-)

(Well, except for YouTube channels)

AndrewDucker··on Nvidia wants to put a watchdog chip next to every AI agent
No reason why you couldn't do that research in the same buildings as the models.

Or, more likely, control things at the network level so that packets from the LLMs you're investigating cannot leave the virtual network they're assigned to.

AndrewDucker··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
Once you have a solar panel you can't be cut off from using it. It's not like oil where you need regular deliveries forever.
