BartBoch··on Show HN: Real Senior Dev from $4.9/HR
I can't disagree.
BartBoch··on Upwork just stole $10k from me
Knowing which company, that your live depends on, know how to make things right is crucial knowledge - thus the popularity of those threads IMO. When years of your life gets deleted in seconds, and the company starts ignoring you, that's the red flag that needs to be public. I'm not advocating for separate section, but the public have spoken - the popularity of those threads means it's crucial part of this community.
BartBoch··on DuckDuckGo Removes Pirate Sites and YouTube-DL from Its Search Results
Did you try in incognito? Your search gave me nearly identical results.
BartBoch··on The New York Times buys Wordle
No, you're not. I think the OP got carried away. Few years back everything new with at least minimal social touch was "New Social Network"
BartBoch··on Netlify raises $105M and acquires OneGraph
This can go really close to antitrust laws - I am not sure if the risk is worth it.
BartBoch··on $100M xPrize for Carbon Removal
Not a solution, but still - check "Oxytree". It's a tree "farmed" in Europe, that was created in Spain. Within 6 years it grows to 16 meters. You can cut it almost completely, and it will regrow. You cut it then every 4 years. It will regrow multiple times. The tree as far as I know cannot re-plant itself (so its not invasive), and it absorbs up to 10 times more CO2 than regular trees. It's still young project, but more and more countries create plantations of it (also as a way of CO2 recapture).

Any solution that is applied to massively produced product (a car) will get massive funding, research grants and it will only improve over time. This way it can be distributed to other areas quicker and at lower cost. So yes, implementing hydrogen in cars is a massive success to other industries.
BartBoch··on Build to learn – tame your shiny object syndrome
Not heard about it, but will Google it. Thanks!
BartBoch··on Build to learn – tame your shiny object syndrome
Thank you, I appreciate your comment. It's definitely different. We (people with Shiny Object Syndrome) need to find a way to keep delivering complete product too. This is one of them.
BartBoch··on Stripe raises $600M at nearly $36B valuation
A solution, it seems, might be to allow users to get free refunds for up to 5% transactions in current month. Anything above that is paid.

This way regular members are not penalized by big refunders...

BartBoch··on Citroën introduces a two-seat EV that costs €2,644 and then €19.99 a month
What a ridiculous comment. Re-read my comment again, it's actually the opposite of what you said.
BartBoch··on Citroën introduces a two-seat EV that costs €2,644 and then €19.99 a month
It seems like one of those cases, where very small % of people say "oh wow", and the majority of actual drivers say "oh no".

Cheaper and it looks much, much better... The Biro looks really cheap, and at that price, you can get a decent full-sized car!
BartBoch··on An 18-carat gold nugget made of plastic
Yeah, this caught my attention too. I like my watch to be semi-heavy - I like to feel it's on my wrist. A huge part of watch-wearing community like heavier watches.

The author used huge generalization, probably based on his own preferences.

BartBoch··on How not to get a $30k bill from Firebase
Not taking sides here, but I think that the cloud is complicated enough (especially for a person that does not specialize in it), to miss one of the edge cases that can lead to the huge bill.

In a few minutes, I can set simple PHP script with curl, that will launch 100 requests each second, using a pool of hundreds of thousands of IP's thank to the rotating VPN.

This is an edge case of course, but it can happen.

I use cloud myself, but only cloud servers, which allows me to control budget better and provides me with an "escape plan", where I can just switch to dedicated quickly.

BartBoch··on BGP 768K day, and whether it will cause internet outages
2 popups make the article unreadable for you? I got one popup and some tracking links blocked by ad blocker, nothing unusual.
BartBoch··on Jack Dorsey says it’s time to rethink the fundamental dynamics of Twitter
If you put it on a single, easily recognizable, easily accessible page (all new features, etc.), then many users will find it. You can even give a notification when a new feature is added (as long as kept to a reasonable amount).

Features that will go viral are worth adding for all, features that did not can be kept there.

Then make it an opt-in. Companies should use the more "opt-in" method.

Bundle it under "experimental" or "advanced features" in an easy to use page with a very clear explanation of what each feature does.

BartBoch··on Travel through wormholes is possible, but slow
Well, we are able to research FTL for only a few decades. Give it a few more due to complexity. Few ages ago people thought that the world is flat...

Also, there are theories of FTL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faster-than-light

BartBoch··on Travel through wormholes is possible, but slow
As always, soon we will discover another way, or there will be a different theory that will allow bending the rules.
BartBoch··on Migrating 23TB from S3 to B2 in 7 hours
It seems that they have two DCs now, not sure if the second is used for redundancy though.
BartBoch··on Matrix.org hacked
I have just checked quickly the comments and post-mortem, and I start wondering - it seems that the attack itself would be not really possible if Matrix would not be open source (as this would restrict access to the sensitive data)? Is that right?
BartBoch··on Finland’s Basic Income Experiment Shows Recipients Are Happier and More Secure
Well, this test is invalid for one more reason - recipients knew that the experiment has "end date." This means that the employment rates would not be affected since people could not treat the benefits as a permanent thing and plan accordingly. If you would take 1,000 people and give the lifetime benefits, I would assume this would change things a bit.
