This takes away from all the indies that AI is empowering. I use AI on the game I am creating. It is wonderful in many ways. (I say this as I watch it burn thru 2m tokens with out informing me of the scope of what it was going to do).

And I would love to build a home LLM server, but 10,000 is not in my budget right now.
Will this be the case in 5 years, probably. They will certainly be different rabbit holes.
But it will work all night and on weekends. It never gets sick. It never forgets to do something. And as far as I can tell, it does it best work all the time.
That's enough skin for me.
I mean - reviewers!
Question I have is when will they be able to render something more then 30 seconds.
And how much will it cost? There has to be a HUGE amount of computing power behind this. As a video game developer I live in fear and anticipation.
I've been building virtual worlds, games and game engines for 25 years, and the last year has been amazing. Last December was the start of a revolution, and in the ten months since, the models have just kept getting better.
These days I can sic Opus 5.5 on ten issues from my todo list, go to bed, and wake up to them fixed. It's always faster than I would have been, but speed isn't what impresses me. It holds every issue in mind at once and connects them in ways I never did.
It has real limits. It's great at connecting what's already there, but it doesn't invent anything. It's weak on visual detail, and consistency is a foreign word to it. You have to keep steering it. Do that well and it will blow you away.
Whenever I have tokens to spare, I point it at architecture reviews, code reviews and security reviews. It keeps the codebase tight.
Over the last year it has written 250k lines of code for me, it has generated all of the icons for the game, it has written retargeters to take Maximo animations and put them on my model. Damn.
Then I realized I was spending 3600.00 USD for Anthropic and OpenAI per year.
And hopefully they are just paying that per developer, not per employee.
If it gets done too fast with LLM you need to think bigger.
Hell if I had know that a 5090 would be worth 6000 USD I would have brought as many of them as I could for 2000 USD!
I would love to find an excuse to buy a 10,000 dollar machine! But I cant find one yet. My current cloud bill is in excess of 400 USD per month. Just can't achieve frontier model capabilities locally.
Even if you could get a frontier model, you would not be able to run it on any Mac. So speculating on what M7 or M9 will achieve in 5 years (if we even still exist) seems pointless.
Don't you mean an Apple to NVidea comparison?
This prediction has proven quite accurate so far.
Don't think anyone should panic, but people should be aware.
Sounds like there already exist some pretty crazy biological weapons in existence. I dont know if it will be 5 years or 20 years, but at some point some fanatic will try to kill the rest of us.
Can they even do anything new?
