BrissyCoder··on Why DeFi is not a Ponzi Scheme
> To be fair, you do have to start with over-collateralized loans before you can get under/no collateral loans with plenty of projects trying to do the latter.

Yeah but also the collateral always has to be cryptocurrency right?

BrissyCoder··on Why DeFi is not a Ponzi Scheme
Yeah this. I've seen plenty of good jokes on here get upvoted. OPs was unoriginal and lacked any creativity.
BrissyCoder··on Why DeFi is not a Ponzi Scheme
It's a Ponzi scheme built upon a Ponzi scheme.

Ethereum (and whatever other chains support smart contracts) literally only exist as a platform upon which to build Ponzi schemes.

Sorry but I can't do anything with DeFi. It's just juggling more crypto around. I've had multiple tell me I can get a loan on it but this is just False for any practical reason. I can't say get a loan for a car and use the car itself as collateral like I can do at literally any bank. I have to put up 100% of collateral in crypto. It blows my mind that there are people on this site who are proponents of DeFi in its current form.

BrissyCoder··on I Hacked My Standing Desk with a Raspberry Pi
> Good for the author, but the article leaves "MOM GET THE CAMERA!" impression.

I agree but still think there's value in having this kind of content abound on the internet as it gives beginners with zero experiance a good starting point.

> Might as well attach a diesel-fueled generator and a pentium 4 to the back of the desk.

Maybe but it's 5 bucks so who really cares.

BrissyCoder··on CO₂ Coin: Decentralized Carbon Capture Blockchains (2021)
So funny watching people contorting to strap blockchains on to applications that definitely don't benifit from them at all.
BrissyCoder··on Australia’s trash bin-raiding cockatoos
You mean down to Lorne.
BrissyCoder··on Bitcoin’s gold rush was always an illusion
As far as I can tell this article isn't making an argument against utility or usefulness merely pointing out that the price of BTC has been artificially manipulated (which seems obvious).

Watch this and tell me they're not about to run out of greater fools.

BrissyCoder··on Watch 1k illegal Bitcoin PCs get literally steamrolled, experience justice
Presumably the power supplies could be repurposed?
BrissyCoder··on Show HN: Should I Get a House? a better rent vs. buy calculator
For me the quality of life, security and mental health that comes from owning trumps whatever the results a calculator like this is going to say. It doesn't factor in the anguish from having a family and seeing 30 other groups inspecting every single decent rental open home. Has been like that the last 3 years or so in Brisbane.
BrissyCoder··on Show HN: Should I Get a House? a better rent vs. buy calculator
I think you are missing the point.
BrissyCoder··on Word gap: When money’s tight, parents talk less to kids
Thanks - I have trouble trying to re-organize expressions like that into something that makes sense. Just doesn't compute.
BrissyCoder··on Word gap: When money’s tight, parents talk less to kids
> The real trick is, being able to observe and absorb is one thing, or indeed to articulate.

I can't make heads nor tails of this sentence but the rest of your comment seems reasonable.

BrissyCoder··on Word gap: When money’s tight, parents talk less to kids
It amazes me what my 2 year old manages to absorb and understand. Feels like there's a big disparity in their ability to observe and absorb compared to being able to articulate.
BrissyCoder··on ‘Everyone is dying’: Myanmar on the brink of decimation
> One very reputable public health specialist expects that the population will be decimated by at least 10-15 million by the time Covid is done with Myanmar.

The population is only 54 million. How could Covid possibly kill 15 million there!?

BrissyCoder··on Sega sued for ‘rigged’ arcade machine
No I meant in my original comment.
BrissyCoder··on Sega sued for ‘rigged’ arcade machine
> To be fair, kids don’t care about cheap plastic, and they love flashing lights and sounds.

People love all kinds shit that is objectively bad for them... sugar, heroin, gambling, cryptocurrency.

> Expensive plastic toys have the same flashing lights and sounds.

The cheap adjective was unnecessary.

BrissyCoder··on Sega sued for ‘rigged’ arcade machine
I had pretty much the exact same experience recently.

What also annoyed me when our child was much younger was how many of the toys people bought him were cheap plastic with flashing lights and sounds and how much these reminded me of slot machines.

BrissyCoder··on China's Ban on Bitcoin Follows a Pattern Frequently Used by Beijing
You easily get like 500% py returns using DeFi.
BrissyCoder··on China's Ban on Bitcoin Follows a Pattern Frequently Used by Beijing
I live in Australia and my.air conditioning runs for free off of solar. In many parts of the country people would die without AC.

Also crypto has no utility and should be banned.

BrissyCoder··on Scenarios in which Tesla FSD Beta 9.0 fails
Highly recommend listening to the 3 episode miniseries TrueAnon did on Musk and Tesla. Really eye opening. The dude should be in prison.
BrissyCoder··on Scenarios in which Tesla FSD Beta 9.0 fails
It's been a while since I read it... What's the Animal Farm reference here?
BrissyCoder··on Podswap: Keep airpods alive and out of the landfill
Second this. I also don't understand how people get these things to stay in their ears... I must have large or weirdly shaped earholes or something.
BrissyCoder··on Elizabeth Warren Gives SEC July 28 Deadline to Figure Out Crypto Regulation
> The benefit is related to growth

Right... so pure speculation then with no underlying utility.

BrissyCoder··on Elizabeth Warren Gives SEC July 28 Deadline to Figure Out Crypto Regulation
What's to understand? I can get a loan on crypto but I have to put the same amount of crypto as collateral. What is the point of this?

If I go to a bank I can get a loan for a car and use the car I'm purchasing itself as collateral.

BrissyCoder··on Crypto Scammers Rip Off Billions as Pump-and-Dump Schemes Go Digital
Scam coins: the one and only actual use case for Ethereum and smart contracts.
BrissyCoder··on Elizabeth Warren Gives SEC July 28 Deadline to Figure Out Crypto Regulation
I balk whenever someone calls DeFi 'a product'. You can't actually do anything with it. It's just a bunch of hand waving and shuffling more crypto around. The emperor has no clothes.
BrissyCoder··on Ask HN: How aware are you about building decentralised software on blockchain?
Man... you have to be taking the p%$s for sure!?

And you mean "I can get a loan of X amount of money for X amount of collateral, yes."

What use is that to me!? Total horsesh*%t.

This whole thing is the biggest financial joke of our generation.

BrissyCoder··on Ask HN: How aware are you about building decentralised software on blockchain?
Are you telling me I can get a loan - say for a car - using DeFi right now?
BrissyCoder··on Ask HN: How aware are you about building decentralised software on blockchain?
Are these users doing anything more than essentially just shuffling more crypto around? No.
