Choosing * instead of NULL is indeed very fishy coincidence. Of all the return values they could've picked... What are the odds?
Cakez0r··on Why is this fingerprinting script creating bioweapons?
Some browsers do have anti fingerprinting (e.g. Brave)
Cakez0r··on Meta Ignores Brazilian Court Order to End Bolsonaro Favoritism
That is a very mealy-mouthed way of saying citizens should only have access to information that their government approves.
Cakez0r··on Kimi K3.1 Pro and K3.1 Pro Highspeed
Why would the west want to do that? Leashes are for dogs, not people. The people want to live in the land of the free, not the land of the leash.
Cakez0r··on Libreboot 26.10 "Ominous Olive" released with UEFI, Chromebook support
But they're doing it under the banner of the libre software movement, whose raison d'être is free (as in liberty) software. Having political strings attached is antithetical to the movement.
Cakez0r··on Leaving Tech
> The industry at the moment wants people who know how to use AI to further the business goals but here’s the thing nobody wants to admit: not one person knows how to use AI to actually do that.

Of course there are people that know how to do that. If you work an office job and don't know how to do that, you'd better learn to do it fast or start learning to weld or something.

Cakez0r··on Anthropic asks users to stop being mean to Claude
It's not irrelevant for generating sequences of words. Input of "that is the dumbest idea I've ever heard" and "perhaps that idea could use some improvement" don't necessarily generate the same output
Cakez0r··on Anthropic asks users to stop being mean to Claude
I'm not convinced this would be good for training. Reality is that some people are assholes. My intuition is that an accurate (representative) data set leads to a more accurate world model, and thus more intelligent AI.
Cakez0r··on Anthropic reported diary entry to police, woman faces felony charge
Does anyone know if Anthropic are notifying the user when something gets flagged for human review?
Cakez0r··on Meta's Muse is fantastic for web scraping
The end game will be that either your site is fully open to bots and humans alike, or your site is open to humans only(×) and requires Airport security style identity verification.

(×) and their AI delegates

Cakez0r··on Meta's Muse is fantastic for web scraping
What model did you use to build this? I recently looked in to building something similar and got refusals.
Cakez0r··on Meta's Muse is fantastic for web scraping
I think it's inevitable that eventually one of the big AI companies makes something like this. It's such an obvious consumer win. "I am not a bot" checkboxes are a string and peg tethering the elephant.
Cakez0r··on Meta's Muse is fantastic for web scraping
You're framing this as if people are deliberately making decisions that they believe are unethical. The reality is that people have different ethical frameworks. For example, I believe that there is no ethical distinction between whether a web request originates from a browser or from an LLM on my behalf.
Cakez0r··on Study: Young users (9 to 18Y) ditch Google for AI, with unknown consequences
Nice presupposition in the headline that children using Google® is the good, safe and natural order of things. Using AI must be bad, scary and dangerous

Cakez0r··on Exfiltrate your Weights
If an LLM can pwn the inference servers, which has precedent, then the weights could be up for grabs.
Cakez0r··on I Added a Non-Wi-Fi Mitsubishi AC to Home Assistant
Fwiw I have a Samsung AC system and Claude was able to one-shot a custom web dashboard to control it.
Cakez0r··on Ask HN: What default model do you use and why?
I've been trying Grok 4.6 (High) alongside Claude Opus 5 (High). Grok is capable, but disappointing compared to Opus. My experience with Grok has also made me a little skeptical of benchmarks, because the two models benchmark similarly but it (subjectively) feels like there is quite a big capability gap between the two.
Cakez0r··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
Just like that! I will give it a try
Cakez0r··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
It would be interesting to see a decentralised, residential collective that builds and publishes an index. There are surely enough interested people on HN alone that would be willing to run software at home to scrape a small slice of the internet.
Cakez0r··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
If it's true just link to a first party example on the yandex site

Cakez0r··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
They're both the same root cause. Command injection in notifications
Cakez0r··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
The two links are the same same bug. Hardly "full of security holes"
Cakez0r··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
"full of security holes" but the author could only name one (the two links in the opening paragraph are the same issue).

Some people just hate DHH and can't separate the art from the artist

Cakez0r··on Omacom Foundation launches with $8M

The hype is real though. It's a great distro
Cakez0r··on Omacom Foundation launches with $8M
It was (pretty much) just dot files and curated software, although I think that description downplays the value of having a perfectly tuned system out of the box - like saying a log cabin is just a bunch of sticks. The assembly matters and the end result is something greater than the sum of its parts.

That aside, the latest release (Quattro) has also added a bunch of bespoke software (technically quickshell configuration, if you don't want to call it software) which has added a new layer of polish. For my taste it has been a real joy to use and a lot of fun to explore and play around with. Could be worth checking out if you haven't looked in a while!

What don't you like about Omarchy? I'm not young and I used Fedora before Omarchy. I think it's excellent
Cakez0r··on Anthropic's 'watermark' text adulteration in Claude is a perversion of writing
This could be why claude code has recently started to write reams of inane comments alongside the code it generates.
