I write the open-source photo editor Filmulator as a hobby.

CarVac··on France needs to read my paper
At the same time, it's a tax policy that would improve the housing supply in desirable locations.
CarVac··on France needs to read my paper
Tax policy was never about "freedom and liberty", it's about collecting revenue for government and guiding economic development.

And the channel's preceding few videos covering the development of the prerequisite technologies.

CarVac··on Tesla Roadster
> kept all the pieces 0.2mm apart

You can add glass microspheres to adhesives to guarantee bondline thickness. It's often done nowadays whenever you have different metals meeting with a glue bond because it keeps them electrically isolated, preventing galvanic corrosion.

CarVac··on Tesla Roadster
It's compressed air.
CarVac··on Hole Punch: Sling your spaceship around gravitational fields
It used pairs of holes in a very different way than I did.
CarVac··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
They do have a backup camera.
CarVac··on Apple iPhone 18 Pro Camera test
Polygonal aperture openings are not the cause of soap-bubble bokeh, it's the cause of polygonal stopped-down bokeh.

Heavily ringed bokeh just comes from the optics.

CarVac··on It took a year to ship WebAssembly in Anubis
PoW was originally anti-spam technology.
CarVac··on I think the military commissary's freezers were hacked
The bold text use make me think it was largely LLM-written. Maybe even LLM-researched.
CarVac··on “I just chose words carefully”
Row/col works but width/height doesn't, alas.
CarVac··on “I just chose words carefully”
My dad told a story of a classmate in high school going through the effort of manually justifying text in a paper he wrote and being rewarded with a plagiarism accusation.

That was done by typing the whole paper twice, with added spaces the second time.

CarVac··on Ask HN: What's your daily driver keyboard?
Mitosis Anaphase, a handwired sandwich design based on the Mitosis keyboard.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/8wip5j...

I type with the keyboard on my lap so a split design didn't work for me, hence creating this handwired contraption.

I use the Dvorak layout and have two alternate layers. In the number layer, the top row is punctuation, home row is numbers, and bottom row spilling into the thumb cluster is F keys). The other utility layer has mouse keys and media control.

Keyswitches: Box Navy

Caps: Polycarbonate DCS alphas R1-R3-R4, DSA R3 for the tall thumb caps, G20 for the low thumb caps.

CarVac··on Windows brings out the Rorschach test in everyone (2003)
They tried too hard after the success of Hardy Heron and its awesome wallpaper.
CarVac··on Civic Hygiene – avoid building technologies that could be used by a police state (2013)
I think there's a distinction between creating generic info-gathering technology that helps them gather their own data from their own users, and you gathering data that the government can then ask (force) you to hand over.
CarVac··on Show HN: Automatically detect and patch walking-dead states in Sierra games
As soon as I saw bold text, I knew. Humans never bold things.
CarVac··on Gakutensoku
I've mostly seen it on the right side of vehicle livery.
CarVac··on What Happened to Talenti?
They mention Jeni's. Now that is premium ice cream. Their "darkest chocolate" and "milkiest chocolate" flavors are the only chocolate ice creams I like, because they actually taste liko eating chocolate.
CarVac··on The simple elegance of the integrated timing belt loopback fastener
Printed teeth are weaker than the belt's own teeth.

Conversely, with this design the center pin could break loose and the belt would still hold, because the pin just has to stop the loop from fitting through the slot.

CarVac··on The Pneumatics of Hero of Alexandria (1851)
Today I learned that diabetes is the greek word for siphon.
CarVac··on Fable turned reMarkable into Tom Riddle's diary from Harry Potter
Sci-Fi Author: In my book I invented the Torment Nexus as a cautionary tale.

Tech Company: At long last, we have created the Torment Nexus from classic sci-fi novel Don't Create The Torment Nexus.

CarVac··on Why Switzerland has 25 gbit internet and America doesn't
At my past place Fios was excellent but I've had mixed results recently, with ping spikes and a lot of suspected traffic shaping of things like Youtube.

Service is pretty good though.

CarVac··on My Favorite Keyboards
Mitosis is the layout that I like, it doesn't require a huge thumb stretch.
CarVac··on Tokyo has only two barley tea makers, we visited one to see how mugicha is made
I consume copious amounts of cold mugicha. It's amazingly refreshing and very cheap.
CarVac··on Supreme Court upholds broad conception of birthright citizenship
We can collect income tax from children of tourists who happen to be born in the US on vacation? Great!
CarVac··on 1250-HP Chevy Corvette ZR1X Is Now the Quickest Car We've Ever Tested
The fastest drag racing cars still are internal combustion. When raw speed is the goal, the torque doesn't have to be efficient, you can get it from an engine spinning away in its power band with a controlled amount of clutch or torque converter slipping.

This is still crazy from a road car though.

CarVac··on Electric motors with no rare earths
> Besides being cheaper, the induction motors have the advantage that if they are used only as auxiliary motors, you can cut the power supply to them at any time, in which case they will consume nothing.

EESMs have this advantage too, you can simply cut power to the field winding.

CarVac··on Electric motors with no rare earths
Efficiency varies according to the load and RPM.

Permanent magnet motors have higher peak efficiency but EESMs are better in non ideal conditions, particularly low torque high RPM i.e. highway cruising where efficiency is more critical than at low speeds.

CarVac··on Vinyl succumbs to Loudness War: more than just collateral damage (2025)
Sometimes limitations can have benefits.
CarVac··on Vinyl succumbs to Loudness War: more than just collateral damage (2025)
Regardless, for me the CD is actually painful to listen to even at low volumes, while the vinyl is excellent.
