CodeCompost··on Bitcoin Core 26.0
GitHub should start introducing energy labels to repos so that they understand the impact they have on the environment.
CodeCompost··on You do need a technical co-founder [video]
Yeah and then the non-technical co-founder treats you like you're worthless because you're "just a programmer"
CodeCompost··on OpenAI researchers warned board of AI breakthrough ahead of CEO ouster
It's a text generator that spits out tokens. It has absolutely no understanding of what it's saying. We as humans are attaching meaning to the generated text.

It's the humans that are hallucinating, not the text generator.

CodeCompost··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
Could this something to do with the moat he's been digging?

CodeCompost··on A coder considers the waning days of the craft
I don't know what's going on, but lately on /r/programming there has been a /lot/ of negative pessimistic and downright angsty articles on software development, like there is some kind of campaign to downgrade the career of software developer.
CodeCompost··on Unity announces layoffs despite increased revenue and reduced losses
Are Visual Studio Professional and Enterprise not profitable? Not bashing just curious.

They do give away VS Code and VS Community is free so I guess tgat must cut into profits...

CodeCompost··on NetBSD 10.0 RC1
I found the SD Card performance of NetBSD to be really bad on the Rpi3. Have they fixed it yet?

Linux and FreeBSD on the Rpi3 don't have the same problem.

I'm a moron. I typed in the divide symbol. What an idiot I am.

CodeCompost··on SumatraPDF Reader
I got burned by Foxit when they started shipping spyware with it, so I'm hesitant now to try anything else.
CodeCompost··on O3DE

but pretty much nobody mentioned or cared for something like O3DE
Because it's a project started by Amazon.
CodeCompost··on O3DE
It's also a project under the stewardship of The Linux Foundation.
CodeCompost··on Rendering Blazor components to a string: Exploring the .NET 8 preview – Part 9
To me this is just another iteration of WebForms: the final rendered component looks nothing like the code you put in.
CodeCompost··on Microsoft might want to be making Windows 12 a subscription OS, suggests leak
That's what people have been saying about Windows for quite a while now. Nothing new here.
CodeCompost··on How Google alters search queries to get at your wallet
Ok maybe 10 years ago? When Google was still good.

Kagi has a free tier if you want to check it out.

CodeCompost··on How Google alters search queries to get at your wallet
I had been using DDG for a while now and sometimes still fell back on Google for searches. I would say that Kagi so far has been as good as the Google of about 2-3 years ago.

The primary reason why I switched over is the argument "nothing is free". I am hoping that paying for a search service means they'll respect my privacy. I'm on a monthly plan so at the first whiff of controversy I'm out.

So far so good, but I'm keeping an eye on it.

CodeCompost··on My views on NeoHaskell

  An event sourcing framework
I'm out.
CodeCompost··on How Google alters search queries to get at your wallet
I've been trying out Kagi since the HN post from just under two weeks ago. Enjoying it so far.

CodeCompost··on Platform that enables Windows driver development in Rust
Microsoft tried that already. It failed miserably. I don't think they gave a reason but I suspect that garbage collection caused too many freezes in early 2000s hardware.
CodeCompost··on Install Windows the Arch Linux Way
It's basically headless Windows, isn't it?
CodeCompost··on The anatomy of a Godot API call
Nobody suggested that Godot was on par with Unity. The hope is that resources get diverted away from Unity towards Godot so that it can develop into a top-notch game engine. It's time to stop waiting and start working on Godot.
CodeCompost··on What if OpenDocument used SQLite? (2014)
There really should be a "NoSQLite" or something equivalent to store hierarchical data instead of normalized data.
CodeCompost··on Show HN: Nue – A React/Vue/Vite/Astro Alternative
Couldn't you have come up with a better name? It's way too close to vue.js and will cause massive confusion.
