CodeCompost··on NetBSD adds a new text editor called atto
It's using keystrokes inspired by emacs. Ok.
CodeCompost··on AlpineBSD
The impression I get is that NetBSD has just enough code to get it up and running on a machine but there is not enough development and testing to get it to run well on a machine.
CodeCompost··on Genie 4
What do we need this for?
CodeCompost··on Dutch government had hacked into Jared Kushner's phone
Why should we be warned. It's pretty much widely known that the entire Trump administration is compromised. That details may be salacious goes without saying.
CodeCompost··on DuckDB 2.0.0 LTS “Cinnamon Teal”
I've used it for data migration combined with Jupyter Notebook.

While I'm fully aware of DataFrame, I am more familiar with SQL. So I used Python scripts in Jupyter to load Excel sheets into DuckDB, and then run queries in DuckDB. Eventually I export the data back to Excel or SQL Server.

Not the most efficient way to do this I know, but it works for me.

CodeCompost··on PHP 8.2.35
It says "3 days ago". The tag is 2 days old.

I assume it just got pushed?

CodeCompost··on Dutch National Cyber Security Center is Offline because it uses PHP
How do you deal with end users wanting to edit their content? They have no clue what Markdown or Git is.
CodeCompost··on Wine ported to OpenBSD
That is awesome. I take it I can't run this with nVidia.
CodeCompost··on Grace Hopper Celebration Cancelled
What's stopping those students from holding an impromptu memorial?
CodeCompost··on Show HN: PS2 games statically recompiled to WebAssembly
AI or no AI, this is amazing.
CodeCompost··on Fable Took My Job
This post is illegible.
CodeCompost··on European Alternatives
I used mailbox.org briefly but was very heavily disappointed in it. Canceled my account and moved to Proton.
CodeCompost··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
Same here. Firefox on Windows 11 looks awful. Edge looks better (I don't use Edge)
CodeCompost··on Calling It Quits on ServerFault
People may be dismissive of Serverfault and the other sites but pretty much all LLMs are trained on them.
CodeCompost··on Oracle cites 'force majeure' to shield itself on controversial data center
'Force Majeure' is a good way to describe their incompetence.
CodeCompost··on Dario, Please
You could, you know, pull the plug.
CodeCompost··on Anthropic CEO Says It's Time to Slow AI Model Advances
And you are ... ?
CodeCompost··on Rust is tier-1 language at Microsoft
Agreed but I think you need to pry Visual Studio from VB.NET developers' cold dead hands.
CodeCompost··on iPhone Duo
$2000? Let me reach into my wallet and pull out the bird flip.
CodeCompost··on I resigned from Anthropic today
And the hype machine continues. I willing to bet that Anthropic asked him to make that post.
CodeCompost··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
I just assumed it was a routine Cloudflare outage.
CodeCompost··on The asteroid currently hitting front end web development
From one of the links in the article (https://exploringjs.com/):

> The income from my book sales went from being enough for me to live off (2024) to zero (2026).

Oof that hits hard. I'm not an author or anything like that, but wow.

CodeCompost··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404
GitHub Copilot itself is up but it is having problems with "Grok Copilot Model Provider". No mention of OpenAI or Claude.

Does this mean that GitHub has its own infrastructure for OpenAI and Claude? And that it distills prompts to Grok?

CodeCompost··on ChatGPT Is Throwing 404
GitHub Copilot cli works fine.
CodeCompost··on RavynOS: Pre-alpha open-source OS based on Darwin, FreeBSD, Apple open-source
Another one? What happened to the other one that was called ... (quick Google) ... Hello System?
CodeCompost··on Show HN: My Emacs Zero to IDE Journey
I know there are 0 comments but actually I appreciate your post. I'm a developer on the Windows platform that uses C# and Typescript extensively, so you are definitely in tune with what I'm looking for. I'm also looking to learn Rust, just for the fun of it. Thumbs up.

What I particularly find interesting is the Eglot vs LSP-mode difference.

CodeCompost··on Stripe acquires Clerky
I'm getting Gordon Gecko vibes.
CodeCompost··on What's new in Emacs 31.1
The section under "User Lisp Directory" seems incomplete. I was expecting a second paragraph.
CodeCompost··on The August 17 outage

Central US data center failed to scale with it
I'm in Europe and I experienced token failures as well.
