Can we all marvel at the site. The author says they did the discovery on November 3. Since then they apparently bought a domain, set up the webpage, created animations, and a cartoon. All kinds of stuff, and got it to explode on hackernews. A span of 2-3 days. How long ago was this not even conceivable?

Does this mean I can make a security api that requires your verbatim credit card details, and wait for the agents to flood in?
Cort3z··on StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month
Everyone is probably saying this, but in my opinion the whole site failed because people with high iq and low eq held all the power, scaring away new users, and old users like me.

It is a site about helping people where no one seemed interested in helping people.

Isn’t this good news? I imagine a lot of misinformation and phishing will become difficult.

Hagerty has an interview with a Tesla exec that was shot before the release. Answers a lot of the questions people have here. Really interesting https://youtu.be/22rvpUecLts?is=STsYWoVcb4W-2t4D
Cort3z··on Passkeys are not a trap
I’m not necessarily a security expert, but my understanding is that passkeys are better in two (or more?) fundamental ways.

- it is linked to a domain, as the article states, which makes it less likely to “exposed” in phishing attempts - it is a challenge system, essentially a public private key system, so the private key never leaves your device. Kind of like tls/https. Which means that even if bearer/login token is lost, your “password”(private key) isn’t lost. - also, an obvious bonus is that you get a really long “password” which is practically impossible to guess

Sorry if any of my terminology is wrong here.

This product seems great to me and my needs. Yes, I can do the same with an e-ink display, linux, claude subscription, and time. But I won't. I would much rather buy a product with minimal setup out of the box. I hope this can become my houses' stationary "land line phone".
Cort3z··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
Did you even read what I wrote?
Cort3z··on Bitwarden Dual License Model
I hate this. So much software I love keeps doing this. redis, docker, now bitwarden. I was so happy with bitwarden. Been a premium subscriber for many years. I have helped convert many people, including whole companies, to use this. Now they are doing us such a disservice. We need a completely free, no-nonsence, alternative. I wonder if it is possible to do a ipfs/torrent version without a central authority to permanently prevent this type of issue.

Who is responsible when, inevitable, something illegal happens?
Cort3z··on iPhone Duo
I wrote a long comment about how this product does not make sense, but I changed my after having written it. There are some overlap with the iPad and I thought that this might compete with that, but I no longer believe that.

Here is why, and why I personally believe this product might be great.

I will never carry an iPad when I am out and about. If I am going to carry a device of that size, I will bring a laptop. The only use that I personally have for an iPad is laying in my couch or using it as a stationary device for a baby call or something like this.

In this scenario, the bigger screen size is nice.

I often find myself on the go, wanting a larger size screen to deal with random incoming stuff, accountant, customer issues, PRs, and so on. In those cases, it is very handy to have a larger screen. I can manage with my current screen size, but it would definitely be more productive with a larger screen.

I am personally worried about the reliability of the mechanical parts, and I would be really annoyed if the screen started to crease, as I have seen similar devices do before. But if Apple somehow magically fixes that problem, then I would be inclined to buy a product like this for my next phone purchase.

Cort3z··on LG TVs caught spying even when offline or on standby
This is straight up dystopian level spying. Streaming microphone inputs all the time, knowing everything that is displayed on the screens via object recognition and stuff. Scraping your local network. If I’m not mistaken there is the possibility for the tv to connect to public/open networks to send this stuff without you knowing. Magically syncing with your phone. It’s truly terrible, and a class action is all but guaranteed to come. Gamers nexus has a great video on this.

Cort3z··on AMD acquires Taalas to boost inference performance by etching models in silicon
I believe this is big news. Speculations here on out: I imagine this being baked into consumer products, greatly increasing the local token capability for consumers. They will suck the cloud-oriented companies' milkshake. Most users do not need extremely capable models, they just need some automation to do better web-searches, and get simple facts etc. If it can do simple coding tasks too, but at thousands of tokens per second, in stead of tens or hundreds, the development will benefit so much. It will benefit AMD in other ways too. I imagine they can start selling physical chips, usb-drive like devices, that just does llm. If you want a newer, better, model, you simply go to a store and buy one. Need more capability, buy more drives. Similar to physx back in the day, but with usb-c and a smaller footprint.
Cort3z··on Zed DeltaDB
I’m not saying zed necessarily should be the one to do this, but in regards to "why not git, jj.."; if we don’t explore the fringes, how do we know if we are at local or global optimum with current solutions?
Cort3z··on Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6
The magic is in the fact that they essentially have an ASIC llm device. There is no other trickery. The problem they will face is that it is actually locked in silicon, so upgrading models will be difficult, and likely require new hardware each time.

Cort3z··on Midjourney Medical
If this all works, and becomes widely available, I wonder if people would get a lot of health anxiety. Now they can see stuff that is normal, but strange or unexpected.

I’m no doctor by any means, but what if, as an example, an organ fluctuates in size, or composition, naturally. A medical professional would know these things, but a random person off the street might get stressed out and start to panic, or perhaps overcompensate with their diet or something.

I think more data is generally good, but data without context or insight can be problematic.

Cort3z··on Starfling: A one-tap endless orbital slingshot game in a single HTML file
I really like it. Here is my 2 cent:

- the gravity is weird in my opinion. There is basically a gravity going down the screen. I would have expected there to be some "pull" towards the planets. I get why though, you try to prevent mega-long straight shots upward. Perhaps experiment with some drag, where the ball slows down over time. Or perhaps have the walls be gravity points, pulling the ball towards them.

- i would add a long- press to restart immediately, so restarting is faster.

I can see Apple doing something similar in the future. Just like how they are pivoting away from flat design in their ui, perhaps the time is ready for a more "organic" design. Wonder what marketing term they would use

Cort3z··on GPT-5.4
So, are we way into diminishing returns for these models at this point? If so, I think we can calculate when it will be available at home. Given this requires a GB200 NVL72 which has about 1,440 PFLOPS, the current 5090 chip has about 1,676 TFLOPS, so about a 1000x scale-up to the GB200. If we can assume Moores law, which might be broken, but still. We are looking at log2(1000) = 9.96, or about 10 years.
Cort3z··on We will ban you and ridicule you in public if you waste our time on crap reports
I agree, but if there were a common place where everyone did the registration once, it might be less of a problem. Something similar to the «verified» accounts on twitter etc.

I can imagine GitHub becoming this filter somehow

Cort3z··on We will ban you and ridicule you in public if you waste our time on crap reports
I wonder if there is a way to blanket prevent these types of problems.

Possible solutions I can think of:

- Require an account with a paid service. Fix = require money - Require an account verified with real ID/passport etc. Fix = link to real person - Automated reply system to "waste tokens" if it is an AI that is responding. Fix is increased cost of spammer. - Have some kind of "vetting system" where you get on an allowed list to report these types of things. Seems not good to me, but perhaps there is something in it.

I wonder how much open source code is lost because maintainers must deal with this type of thing versus the "good" that AI can bring in productivity.

Are there a total ad time percentage metric in this law too, or will they simply be watching many more smaller ads?
