DNied··on Downranking won't stop Google's deepfake porn problem, victims say
As usual with tech giants, the burden of playing whack-a-mole with the perpetrators is left to the victims, while the company profits.
DNied··on Formalising a new proof that the square root of two is irrational
You forget that √x always has 2 solutions: 1 positive and 1 negative.
DNied··on Roll or Don’t
I wonder how it would work before Javascript.
DNied··on Low Bandwidth CNN
Nice, but I wish they opted for an RSS feed instead.
DNied··on Ask HN: Is it black holes all the way up?
Yeah. It's basically a God hypothesis for geeks.
DNied··on macOS is background scanning and following downloaded QR codes?
If this forum were to live up to its name, you would be laughed out of here after that comment.
DNied··on We Hate Lisp
Yeah, it needs Javascript to display text. No thanks, bye.
DNied··on World of Text is an infinite grid of text editable by any visitor
Just like who knows how many bits of false information. Which then get copied, pasted and repeated across the web and the world.

I've randomly found several, and I'm just one person.

DNied··on The WWW is 30 years old today
At this point, I can't help thinking it created more problems than it solved.
DNied··on Audacity may collect “Data necessary for law enforcement, litigation” and more
> 2. Bad people steal good thing.

2. Good people sell good thing to bad people.

DNied··on Getting to know logical clocks by implementing them
At point #3, I think you meant "then a→c".
DNied··on Not Lisp again (2009)
The syntax of those defines sure looks weird. In what dialect does the name of the function being defined appear as the CAR of a list, followed by the parameters?
DNied··on Phel: A language inspired by Clojure that compiles to PHP
Very interesting! Maybe preprocessors really are the way to go for PHP, even if it were just for ironing out its inconsistencies (not to mention implementing a whole new language on top of it, as in this case).

But why those square brackets for argument lists? That seems unnecessary.

DNied··on Fake Amazon reviews 'being sold in bulk' online
My solution: only read negative reviews. They're much more telling. As a bonus, they'll often kill impulse purchases, saving me money.
DNied··on The Alien-Haunted World
>an atheist insists there must not be.

Wrong... Only so-called "strong atheism" is active belief in gods' non-existence. Regular (unqualified) atheism is lack of belief in gods' existence.

DNied··on Microbial ecosystems in the mouth and gut are linked to many ills
PAYWALLED
DNied··on Intel mocks Apple in new campaign highlighting things users can’t do on a M1 Mac
To be fair, Apple started it in the late '90s with their Pentium-snail ads.
DNied··on The Crypto-Chernobyl
A comparison with cash would be completely arbitrary: bitcoin doesn't replace cash, so it only adds to the problem.
DNied··on Time-lapse of a single cell transforming into a salamander (2019)
A god wouldn't have needed all that complexity to make organisms pop into life. Frankly, God is just the most unintelligent hypothesis.
DNied··on State of Common Lisp Survey 2020
With the decline in Usenet traffic, that's much less of a problem nowadays. I haven't seen any spam in comp.lang.lisp for the last 2 years at least. It's pretty much all signal, and mostly high quality too.
DNied··on State of Common Lisp Survey 2020
Usenet newsgroup comp.lang.lisp for sure.
DNied··on NandGame – Build a Computer from Scratch
I wish Pure Data had a GUI like that. Hats off to the author.
DNied··on Cease and desist for video on how to make “Grana Padano Style Cheese” [video]
>Prosecco is also not Champagne

Indeed: Prosecco is a spumante.

DNied··on Fucking, Austria changes name to Fugging
> Weird (to me, an english speaker with no knowledge of modern or 11th century Austrian) that they went with Fugging and not, say, Focking.

All the time, they would have had people scraping away some paint turning the "o" into a "u"...

DNied··on SC-IM – An ncurses spreadsheet program for the terminal
Cool. I use original sc almost every day. Is this from the same code base?
DNied··on tilde.town: A social network over SSH
What OS are they running? Strangely enough, it's not mentioned in the FAQ and I couldn't find it with a cursory look at their wiki.
DNied··on Kindle collects a surprisingly large amount of data
How is anyone still using a Kindle after the 1984 scandal?
DNied··on rc.d belongs in libexec, not etc
Hence my usage of the word "keep". You can't move /libexec elsewhere.
DNied··on rc.d belongs in libexec, not etc
So then you must keep 'libexec' on the root partition (if your system is partitioned). Whereas '/etc' is on the root partition for sure.
DNied··on Mutt email client 25 years old
It's entirely possible to send mail as format=flowed plain text, so that messages will rewrap nicely on any screen. I do it all the time with Mutt, it's actually very easy.
