DRAGONERO··on Don't "optimize" conditional moves in shaders with mix()+step()
I've checked and on "certain vendors" the mix + step is actually (slightly) better: same temp usage, lower instructions/cycles.
DRAGONERO··on Don't "optimize" conditional moves in shaders with mix()+step()
Shader compilers mostly use LLVM even though runtime is a constraint, if the pattern is common enough it’s definitely easy to match (it’s just two intrinsics after all) meaning you can do it for cheap in instcombine which you’re going to be running anyway
DRAGONERO··on Don't "optimize" conditional moves in shaders with mix()+step()
I’d expect most vendors do, at least in their closed source drivers. You could also check in the mesa project if this is implemented but it’s definitely possible to do
DRAGONERO··on Apple Invites
“Additionally, participants can easily contribute photos and videos to a dedicated Shared Album within each invite to help preserve memories and relive the event.”

This sounds like a great feature. Post event photo sharing is always a bit of a mess.

DRAGONERO··on Notepad++: Help us to take down the parasite website
Might also be worth reporting directly through Cloudflare https://radar.cloudflare.com/domains/feedback/notepad.plus
DRAGONERO··on How Mandelbrot set images are affected by floating point precision
Another way to explore floating point representation can also be to compare rounding modes, as this can impact a lot of what is generated for floating point operations. Most systems are round to nearest even, but round to zero, round towards positive and round towards negative also exist. Bonus points if you also check results for x87 floats.
DRAGONERO··on How AI is changing gymnastics judging
I think you mean “best shoe”
DRAGONERO··on Control Center on macOS is always re-rendering its SwiftUI causing 1% CPU load
That's probably a good amount of battery life that can be claimed back once this is fixed
DRAGONERO··on Artificial womb facility concept for 30k babies per year
Is the Matrix resemblance on purpose?
DRAGONERO··on Microbenchmarking Intel’s Arc A770
Is the benchmark suite available somewhere?
DRAGONERO··on Nvidia Hit by Major Cyberattack
The article lacks a lot of information unfortunately, but it makes it sound like the website (distribution channel) was the only part they are concerned about, which wouldn't be classed as major.

What I'd class as major would be some third party gaining access to NVIDIA's RTL designs and source code for their drivers for current and unreleased GPUs, but this hack doesn't sound remotely close to that. Luckily.

DRAGONERO··on Facebook Scans What You Send Other People on Messenger App
Does Apple do this with iMessage? I don't think they can, even.
DRAGONERO··on Blender 2.79: OpenCL on par with CUDA
NVIDIA supports CL1.2 and it's intentionally slow so people will use CUDA. Plain CL2.0 shouldn't bring performance improvements unless the kernels used by Blender perform things like work_group functions. Also CL2.0 will require people to specify if a WG is uniform, otherwise they must assume it's not uniform and that's taxing in some cases. SPIR-V on the other hand should be interesting to see.
DRAGONERO··on Deconstructing the method to Nintendo's madness
This is the main menu for Super Smash Bros Brawl for Wii: http://faqsmedia.ign.com/faqs/image/article/849/849163/vario...

You cannot use your wiimote to select the menu items, you can only use the controller's D-pad. It's how Smash games have always been. Plus, there is really no reason for you to use touch screen controls for the game.

DRAGONERO··on iCloud Uploads Local Data Outside of iCloud Drive
Just FYI, are you aware that when you create an email the draft is also stored on the server unless you explicitly choose not to?

All of these things are just normal. It's not like an evil mastermind decided that there was the need to access your unsaved documents.

I mean, you can still get angry about it but it seems pointless since you (probably) already use all of the google services that are available.

Also, a "security researcher" should know better :)

DRAGONERO··on Python 3 is killing Python
I'd love to have scapy for Python 3. A lot of ports of it have been started but it seems none of them reached a working state.
DRAGONERO··on Ask HN: “Coinbase just sent you 0.002329 BTC”
It has probably been given to the guys that have applied for the internship earlier this March (at least that't when I gave that email address to YC)
DRAGONERO··on Intern at a YC Company
What if I graduate in march (this year)? Can I still apply? (I would require a J-1 visa, but recent grads can get it, it seems)
DRAGONERO··on Go 1.3+ Compiler Overhaul
In C or in Go?
DRAGONERO··on Google's "iLost" Motorola ad faked an address to "lose" iOS 6 Maps
Why fake a location on a flawed map? Was the goal just to get caught in doing that? It seems a bit silly to do something like that since Apple Maps is in such a bad shape.
DRAGONERO··on Google to pay largest fine in FTC history for bypassing Safari privacy settings
It's like.. 5 minutes of revenue for Google. I guess that fine will let them remember to respect the privacy of the users. Oh wait.

Irony aside, I thing this fine is too small for Google to learn something useful.

DRAGONERO··on App Store Bit Rot
My iPhone 3GS is dying, I bet there are a lot of iPhone 3G customers that are either changing phone because their beloved iPhone does not work anymore or are using their iPhone so lightly that the only application they use is Safari (no apps installed). So I guess there will be no problem at all or the problem will affect a tiny portion of the % of people that have an iPhone 3G that it will just not matter at all.
DRAGONERO··on Copycats
You do remember that a Samsung lawyer could not tell the difference between a Tab and ad iPad in a court, right? (thankfully a second lawyer got it right)
DRAGONERO··on Copycats
Phones were ugly, they were not other phones knock-offs. They were WAY different: Nokia phones were slide phones, Samsung phones were different (similar to Motorola but way thicker)

They were not lookalikes, maybe sometimes vaguely similar, nothing more.

Also, just see the thumbnail image to recall how phones were in 2007: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uW-E496FXg

DRAGONERO··on Copycats
Have you ever seen and used phones prior 2007?
