DaGardner··on Gemini 2.5 models are being deprecated and discontinued
for gemini-2.5-flash-lite the recommended GA migration target is gemini-3.1-flash-lite, or gemma-4-26b-a4b-it-maas.

both more expensive (was $0.10/$0.40) and now either ($0.25/$1.50) or ($0.15/$0.60) for the global variant. especially for uses cases like generating short summaries, where no strong reasoning is needed, there seems to be no option at a similar price point available anymore.

DaGardner··on gRPC: From service definition to wire format
Have you checked out https://connectrpc.com/ We are using this for the basic HTTP server/client compatibility. And that means we can also use from web a context without any proxy setup.
DaGardner··on Spotify was down
this annoys me as well, why would the app decide to log me out, when it cannot connect to the backend? I have playlists downloaded for this exact reason...
DaGardner··on “You don't need this overengineered goo for your project.”
Yes it does: https://stackexchange.com/performance

DaGardner··on Tesla envy grips Germany’s giants
I think this sums the situation up quite well and explains why Mercedes, BMW, etc. have not put a serious Tesla competitor on the streets yet:

> We have to earn money at the end of the day though.

DaGardner··on Show HN: Home Dial
Looks very nice, sharp graphics and the dial has a nice "feel" to it, both mobile and desktop. Very well done.

DaGardner··on Corrode: C to Rust translator written in Haskell
as many "transpilers" / compilers, whatever you might name them, it lacks example input output.

I want to see how my new rust code base looks light, does it compile with some heuritics, or just 1:1 C to rust primitives?

DaGardner··on Ooc – a small programming language that compiles to C99
Has anyone noticed this awesome tutorial on the site? Just plain awesome!
DaGardner··on 32C3 – Chaos Communication Congress – Streams Online

DaGardner··on Deepart.io – Generate images styled like your favorite artist
waiting time for my submission was 106h... that's insane. And if I'd donate €2.99 it would get reduced to 96h...

(I know..., HN produced a lot of load on their servers...)

DaGardner··on Monospaced font with programming ligatures
Especially the joined equal signs could be hard to distinguish I guess...
DaGardner··on Skit: A pure JavaScript front end for building better web clients
this might be cool until you have to debug some weird bug and do not know if it has to do with client or server code...
DaGardner··on Ask HN: What are your favourite tools to work with?
I always prototype stuff on paper with a pen; best way to use your entire desk(top) ;)
DaGardner··on Ask HN: How can I verify that WhatsApp uses E2E encryption?
The packets might be encrypted, but Facebook/WhatsApp _could_ still hold on a master key.
