Actually, the Start menu itself was a regression. What is it being replaced with?
PackageMaker is abandonware and an absolute fiasco. I don't even know where to begin documenting how this "product" fails at its primary task so utterly. Have you ever tried building an installer with it? Even Apple products tried to avoid it; Final Cut Studio, for example.
When the Mac installer does anything, it's just as capable of littering your system with crap.
And the Mac uninstaller doesn't leave turds behind, because it doesn't exist. You just have unknown crap all over your system.
Then there was the total lack of any way to install a single printer driver from Apple's collection until (IIRC) SnowLeopard. You got to install half a gig of drivers for every Epson printer ever made, just to support your one printer.
It has been quite a while since I've had a Windows uninstaller break my system. Do a lot of them leave turds? Yep. But at least they remove the bulk of the payload.
You can still achieve what you want, and even faster, by using tabs to get your subsequent parameter lines most of the way there and then padding with a couple of spaces.
If anything, maybe this will prompt Apple and Mozilla to get on the ball and support it.
Should there be special functions for querying the characteristics of JPEGs stored as BLOBs? How about PNGs?
Where does this end? Just because a couple of float values happen to represent latitude and longitude doesn't mean the DB engine should integrate geospatial logic.
The other problem is that every host offers MySQL. Not so with Postgres.
If it has any significant deficit, MySQL is not going to "catch up." I'm not necessarily agreeing with the article, but don't fool yourself.
Google (read their terms) reserves the right to mine your communications for information that they then sell to advertisers. You're doing THEM at least as much a service.
In other news: Someone else's blog is under my Blogger account, and there's absolutely no way to contact Google about it.
The new credo of doing business is HIDE FROM THE CUSTOMER. It's disgraceful.
Really, really tired of capital I's that look like lower-case L's. These should be banished.
And the above is the only time an apostrophe makes a plural.
A lot of people rail against tabs; most of the time, these are people who don't understand them or have never tried to use them.
You see this debate about tabs vs. spaces in code all the time, and I've yet to hear any valid argument about why spaces are better (at least in any modern context). But there is an obvious reason that tabs are better: It's much easier to line things up, keep them aligned across different users' fonts, and realign them if you change the text to cross a tab.
