DeIlliad··on The New York Times is suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement
> This is way more important to humanity's future than any single media outlet. If the NYT goes under, a dozen similar outlets can replace them overnight.

Easy to grandstand when it is not your job on the line.

DeIlliad··on 2nd City Zoning
This is something I've been meaning to do with my city to show how bad residential zoning is. Kudos to whoever made this.
DeIlliad··on Obsidian 1.5 Desktop (Public)
I don't understand what you are saying here. Logseq files are in the logseq folder. I'm not sure how Logseq is hiding where your content is
DeIlliad··on Meta censors pro-Palestinian views on a global scale, report claims
Given your stance, if a murderer runs in your house then you'll understand when the police break the door down and kill you and everyone inside right?
DeIlliad··on Biden pardons marijuana use nationwide
> I fear the unintended side effects. Like, somebody put away on such a charge because it was easier than the more important charge. Now gonna have to be retried. For example.

I'm aware of cases like this that happened a long time ago. Domestic abusers who got put away on drug charges because it was easier than the alternatives. I still think this pardon is an overall good thing.

DeIlliad··on Threestudio – Framework for 3D content generation
For now. I don't see it staying that way.
DeIlliad··on Apple partly halts Beeper's iMessage app again, suggesting a long fight ahead
> I'm sure if Ford dictated how and where you drove your car you'd be outraged, but we should kowtow to the likes of Apple?

I just wouldn't buy a Ford.

DeIlliad··on Epic vs. Google: Google Loses
What are you even talking about and how is it relevant to what I'm asking? You seem to be leaping to Apple's defense as if you're taking a bullet for them but it isn't really necessary here.
DeIlliad··on Epic vs. Google: Google Loses
We learned in the Epic v. Apple trial that Apple cut sweetheart deals with Netflix and other companies as well. Am I missing how this is different?
DeIlliad··on To revive Portland, officials seek to ban public drug use
Killing them is not extreme enough?
DeIlliad··on Beeper Mini is back
This is some ways like Youtube and adblock. Apple is completely within their right to try to kick Beeper to the curb but I also enjoy watching a scrappy company like Beeper try to circumvent Apple's attempts to shut them out.

Because of how likely it is to be killed though I don't think I shall be adopting it personally.

DeIlliad··on Murder is a pixel art ECS game engine in C#
Never did I claim to represent everyone who has had atrocities happen to them. I'm just giving a data point that not everyone who has had someone murdered recoils in disgust at the sight of the word. Taste is a matter of opinion. The person I replied to happens to think that ANAL and LUBE are perfectly fine as they thematically match the name Love2D. You think it's tasteless. All valid opinions.
DeIlliad··on Wasabi linked to "substantial" boost in memory, Japanese study finds
Proving or disproving a claim is the purpose of a study. At this point, it's out of the researchers hands and up to other research teams to replicate the research and confirm or deny the results.
DeIlliad··on Sigil II, a Doom WAD from J.Romero, has been released
Romero seems like a guy who has a ton of fantastical designs that needs a more conservative designer to help trim them down and bring them into reality. For id Software, that was Tom Hall.
DeIlliad··on Murder is a pixel art ECS game engine in C#
You're being weirdly aggressive about this. I think they explained themselves pretty well. I don't agree with them at all but they have said how they felt and why.
DeIlliad··on Murder is a pixel art ECS game engine in C#
> - is not easy to google

Nobody is googling "Murder" looking for a game engine and being disappointed that they can't find it. If you search "Murder Engine" this is the first thing that pops up.

> - is quite tasteless, less so if murder is mainly something you see on tv, but for some people murder is sadly much less of an fictional rare thing

I have an immediate family member that was brutally murdered. I also have no problem with the name of the engine. Of the things to take issue with, this seems silly. You would hate LOVE2D which has libraries famously named ANAL and LUBE.

DeIlliad··on Apple cuts off Beeper Mini's access
This status page is for their cloud offering, Beeper Cloud. Given how Beeper Mini works I don't think they could even make a status page for it?
DeIlliad··on Apple cuts off Beeper Mini's access
Beeper Mini starts as a 7 day trial and its been 24 hours so I imagine they'll be fine.
DeIlliad··on Warning from OpenAI leaders helped trigger Sam Altman's ouster
We could add them. I didn't because I was keeping my statement within the context of the article focusing on a tech leader but sure, all of them fit the bill.
DeIlliad··on Warning from OpenAI leaders helped trigger Sam Altman's ouster
I will never understand the cult of personality that appears around people like Altman, Musk, or whoever the unicorn CEO of the month is. They are always, without exception, smooth talking psychopaths. That might as well be the job description of being a CEO of a company startup with this kind of growth.
DeIlliad··on Gaussian Head Avatar: Ultra High-Fidelity Head Avatar via Dynamic Gaussians
People routinely fall for lies and get phished from those emails that look like they're from your boss. Every year there are a handful of high profile tech companies that get hacked because someone you would think should know better falls for a phishing scam. I think this is a bigger threat than people are making it out to be.
DeIlliad··on Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive – Connectors
Speaking from experience, there is a big performance difference connecting your eGPU over PCIE and connecting over Thunderbolt. Usually people just take the performance hit with Thunderbolt because of convenience and they are usually using overpowered desktop GPUs but there are eGPU PCIE connectors for people who want the most performance.

Because this is already using a mobile chip with lower performance, Framework probably didn't want to tank performance any more by going with the lower bandwidth Thunderbolt option.

DeIlliad··on Mastering Nim, 2nd edition
It's been a long time so I can't give you specific examples. I'll take another stab at Nim and see if I feel the same way.
DeIlliad··on Mastering Nim, 2nd edition
I want to get into Nim but I think the language is way too verbose for my taste. It's so similar to spoken English, even compared to Python, that it enters some sort of uncanny valley which makes reading Nim code give me a headache.
DeIlliad··on Firefox on the brink?
I know nothing about these people on the board but you clearly do since you think they are a joke so please go on.
DeIlliad··on Dietary fiber intake and all-cause and cause-specific mortality
Those foods specifically aren't cheap foods but foods high in soluble and insoluble fiber can be found very cheap. Whole grains are high in insoluble fiber while black beans and oats are high in soluble fiber.
DeIlliad··on The Fediverse is an opportunity learned societies can't ignore
Everyone believes they were around before Eternal September and not the ones that caused it.
DeIlliad··on 500 Highest Paying Tech Companies (Dec 2023)
OpenSea still being a thing is insane to me.
DeIlliad··on Animate Anyone: Image-to-video synthesis for character animation
Listen, I'm on your side of the argument and this example makes no sense at all.
DeIlliad··on Animate Anyone: Image-to-video synthesis for character animation
This "just math" argument is so reductionist and unhelpful.
