Orbi is a private chat and events app that supposedly makes it easy to stay in touch without the clutter of other social media. You can chat with friends, plan events, share updates and bring together the practical aspects of your social life in one place.

I'm giving it a try, as I like the idea of a communication platform (particularly) for events that isn't Meta owned. Haven't had a chance to have a deep dive in the technical and underlying infrastructure.

Personally, I think it looks pretty sleek. No, I'm not affiliated nor will I benefit in any monetary way from sharing this link. I just stumbled upon it.

Still rocking my M1 with no problems

... by 7 days.

Not halted in general.

To end piracy, all creators must halt all creation.

I believe this to be the central part of the problem. The west cannot meets it's climate goals and retain progressive growth concurrently. Forcing the public to use bamboo tooth brushes and recycling their shopping bags are drops in the ocean compared to Big Corp Inc. of the world.

However, progressive growth is what the modern world is build on so when that changes, I believe we will see _real_ change. But yeah, good luck with that....

This is why is why I pay for internet!

Reading the "Myth of Normal" by Gabor Maté opened my eyes for this as a possible explanation.

I highly recommend this for a read on how stress alters the body.

Peculiar little 'hack' for circumventing the adds if you still insist on not running uBlock Origin or refrain from upgrading to FF.

Author indicated that he smokes weed and eats sugar. Clear vices IMO.

Hoping this can help me cut down the time I need to use on watching YT videos for uni. Outputting 20-30 mins into a .txt and feeding it to ChatGPT for summarizing. Thanks!

Alright, cheers.

Web and iOS app's are not responding. Will emails, sent to me on Proton, be lost?

My problem is that their business model is treating their resources (ie. us, common internet users (both active FB users and people not using it because shadow profiles)) unfairly compared to their profit yield.

A Danish/British lawyer has filed for a collective legal action towards Meta [0][1] seeking USD 3.2 billions in damages to Facebook users. The optics is that Facebook, from a perspective of competition law, has acted unfairly.

A freaking eInk tablet with microphones what the hell lol

edit formatting...

I see. Thank you.

> Micro-USB (USB 2.0)

I love the idea of the phone but having micro-usb instead of usb type-c is IMO a substantial caveat. I do love the idea of a 'dumbed' down smartphone with a large battery capacity though...

EDIT Can it be true that the base model gets Bluetooth 5.0 but the range topping model C21 Plus only gets 4.2? Can someone enlighten my on the reasons for this?

Try Session [0]. Decentralized, no phone numbers and adding contacts is done by either sharing your ID or an QR-code. It works well but, at this time, only texting. Does have pretty apps for iOS/Android and most desktops OS's

EDIT grammar

Speaking of UX; what is up with the black bar at the top of HN?

Extremely cool project and execution but it (hardly) runs on my MBP M1 Pro, 16 GB with FF and a 350mbit/s up-down connection and no other tabs open. Actions (clicking, dragging scrolling) takes a full two seconds to happen... Would have loved to play around with it!

Not to start a war but iCalender has saved everything since I first started using an iPhone in 2013.

edit: Make that 2011

I'm in no way a "birder" nor nature enthusiast, but I'm always deeply fascinated by the size and lethality of these birds of prey. Death from above in the purest form.

Being a frequent on /r/thinkpads I was delighted to see a fellow ThinkPad enthusiast!

Can't remember how many TP's I've had over the years but I'll attest to the older models being solid laptops. The newer ones, however, are disappointing.

My last good ThinkPad was a T470s with an i5, 8GB, 256GB (UNIX/Windows). After several years of (ab)use, I wanted to splurge on a X1 Gen3 and the specs were more than enough for my needs with an i7 (hexa-core), 16GB, 512 GB, 1050TI, 1080p 400nits display. However, when I got it and started to use it hardware issues stared to pile up. I went back to my trusty T470s and sold the X1.

Now I have an MBP M1 Pro and it's great.

> In Europe you'll find people using WhatsApp or Telegram

For whatever reason, in my country, everybody use FB Messenger for the absolute majority of their texting. And by "everybody" I mean teenagers, young adults, parents and the elerderly.

It's only if you've had prolonged stays in other countries (or is exposed to international communication in other ways) that people will be familiar with WhatsApp and I'd guess that very few have ever heard of Telegram here.

Thank you for the link to [0] - I've never heard about nor thought about such a contraption but it looks so freaking cool. Don't have the space for ATM but it's on the To-Get list.

I keep forgetting software like Norton actually stil exists. Being remindede by news that they implemented is f*cking hilarious.

So. Many. Emoji's. On. The. GitHub.

> How did you close the previous chapters of your life?

I actively initiated a new. Not to sound like some propped-up self help book, but I found, from personal experience, that the "I" in one self absolutely needs to make a decision to move on. You create with your thoughts and when you decide to embark on a new chapter - you will move on.

I've always identified stagnation/standstill as a state similar to death. Humans live by moving; both physically and mentally/psychologocially.

I like the idea alot. Too bad the app thorws errors left and right with Gmail and Live making it unuseable to me...

What a great solution - will keep this in mind!
