I assume you are not using Excel 2003 on your 16GB machine. May I ask which version of MS Office you are using?

If I have to believe this[1] thread, then Office 365 is now an Electron app, which would explain the slowness.

Dorton Uber used 50 Dutch shell companies to dodge taxes

The shell logo dates back to the 19th century, when Shell traded in decorative Japanese seashells. You can read more of the logo history at (Dutch) https://www.shell.nl/over-ons/netherlands/history.html

Dorton Our vendor executed a system reboot that caused a shut down of the turnstiles

I think an emergency could also require someone going in, like ambulance crew or firefighters and the likes.

Dorton A Recap of the Mars Terraforming Debate

I think humankind should first clean up the mess here on earth before even thinking about colonizing moons and other planets.

Dorton Don't make customers hunt for the Sign In button on your website

Translators for the Dutch version of Windows 10 are definitely robots. For example, in the save webpage dialog of Edge, they translated “Webpage, complete” to “Webpagina, voltooid”. Voltooid means completed, as in a completed task. The correct translation would have been “Webpagina (volledig)”.

Similar errors are often found throughout programs new with Windows 10 and sentence structures are directly copied from English. I have never found a single error in Windows XP/7.

Dorton Show HN: I'm working on a open-source, self-hosted alternative to Disqus

I browse with JavaScript disabled because A) I don’t see any ads and B) pages load fast on my weak devices (first gen. iPad Air, ~2009 desktop).

I only turn on JavaScript to be able to use the website of my bank.

Dorton Show HN: I'm working on a open-source, self-hosted alternative to Disqus

This looks interesting.

I browse the WWW without JavaScript and this bricks many comment systems. Are you planning to make a widget without reliance on JavaScript?

Windows XP and perhaps newer versions of Windows included a setting to only redraw a window after the user has finished moving/resizing. You would instead see an outline of the new window position/size. The same applied to (un)minimizing. I don’t know about such a setting in MacOS.

Dorton Nobody is joining Google's FLoC

Would it be viable to also add a pop-up asking users to toggle Chrome settings or use another browser? Something like Google has on its homepage for downloading Chrome when visiting from another browser.

Dorton Tesla hikes solar roof price on contracts signed over a year ago

I can’t remember from our previous car, but the current one is nearly at 290000km (~180000 miles) since 2007.

I own and have owned several Tesla vehicles

Given that Tesla hasn’t been around for very long, how long do/did your cars last, and why? Just interested, as the average (non-electrical) cars in my family last around 20 years.

Dorton Technologies I thought my son would never use

Our new* black TV remote includes a big, white with red text Netflix button. We don’t have Netflix and thus will never use this button. The rest of this remote is fine.
