DougN7··on DishwasherBench – Can Frontier Models Stack a Dishwasher?
The stacking regime is meant to maximize water flow and surface exposure to water jets, at least when optimized.
DougN7··on What is going on with ceiling fans
I would love to buy an LED bulb that lasts a long time. I thought the reason for their premium price was supposed long lifetime. Mine all last as long as the older bulbs but cost 5X as much. Where can I buy such bulbs in the US?
DougN7··on Writing code by hand is over, forever
I think you might be right. For $20/month (Claude Code) it’s worth it. If I’m forced to upgrade to $100/month I’ll drop it.
DougN7··on Show HN: Our space game has a built-in RISC-V emulator that runs Linux
That is one game I was so looking forward to. So very excited about this!!
DougN7··on Writing code by hand is over, forever
I’m a developer of 30 years, but writing a game completely with AI. It writes all the code and has something like 200 test cases now . It does well with what it understands but there are all kinds of things it fails at. Like it didn’t blink at an interactive turn-based game taking 10 minutes per turn (instead if an expected 15-30 seconds). That was caused by recomputing everything rather than caching, which I pointed out. There were 3 areas that referred to something we changed. I had to point out what was no longer coherent. AI can write code well, but it just doesn’t have the memory/context size to drive a real world project of any size. It still needs someone else to do the thinking and planning. If I didn’t code I don’t think it would have known where to look to fix many performance problems. I’m not at all worried about it taking my job.
DougN7··on Nvidia wants to put a watchdog chip next to every AI agent
Even then if the agent goes rogue and decides to do the merges you can’t stop it if it has any kind of access. This goes back to the OP’s point - agents can’t be 100% constrained.
DougN7··on Show HN: RxFilm Studio–Create and edit your product videos with AI agent
I have such a hard time imagining this working well. I used an AI service to make a picture of an archer in a different position from where the image originally showed him and it consistently insisted on swapping the arrow tip and the feathers, so feathers at the front of the arrow. Just because you give these things instructions does not mean they get followed precisely.
DougN7··on Show HN: Ax-check.com – Can agents use your product?
Does it follow redirects? My non-www hostname redirects to the www hostname, but ax-check.com says it gets no response back. Any reason it can't take the hostname as-is instead of stripping off the www?
DougN7··on Show HN: Ax-check.com – Can agents use your product?
I'm getting the same thing. My non-www redirects to the www domain. Maybe it can't follow redirects?
DougN7··on Microsoft says AI rival Anthropic could have 'disastrous impact' on humanity
I just read another long post on HN about whether AIs are conscious and should therefore have rights. That decisions could massive effects, and making them appear to have emotions is therefore a big impact, not just unpredictability.
DougN7··on Site Is Closed on Sundays
I’m happy for you and your family so far. What I saw with my kids (now in their 20’s) is they changed from what you are describing with your kids when peer pressure entered their lives, and always-on entertainment of every sort was in their pockets. Many/most of their earlier interests sadly could not compete in the dopamine arena of life. I hope you’ll find a way to parent better than I did, but keep this “tech fast” idea in your back pocket - you might be surprised to need it some day.
DougN7··on Burnt out on a three-day week
Can you expand on that? I’m not sure I agree, and at the same time I think you might be saying something profound that I haven’t understood.
DougN7··on Trial is 40 days. Not until you're 40
I believe it’s because the account is newish
DougN7··on Anger, Anxiety and Agency
I attempt to live sort of like this too. My mother is beside herself with all of the wildfires in the world. In my opinion that is like stabbing your hand with a fork. I’m aware of lots of problems in the world, but I can’t do much if anything about them. So I let them go - I’m not going to injure myself over something I can’t control. Uncertainty is the same - worry and anger injure yourself, but changes nothing. Don’t subject yourself to needless pain. I just wish I could live by these words all the time, but it’s hard.
DougN7··on Every shape can be cut exactly in half with one straight line
I was thinking the exact same thing. There is no way it’s not continuous (except maybe inside a black hole where space-time rules break down?)
DougN7··on Buyer cancels showing after Deflock shows two cameras utilized by the HOA
I can’t comment on HOAs being historically racist - I’ve not seen it. But how would that work? They don’t (at least now) get to vote on who is allowed to buy. So how would they keep out whoever they decided was undesirable? Were there bylaws about skin color?
DougN7··on Claude Code Teaching macOS to Natively Print to the HP Laser 1008a
I find it uses “faithful” an awful lot. But it comes in waves - not at all for a few days and then 10 times in an hour.
DougN7··on Buyer cancels showing after Deflock shows two cameras utilized by the HOA
I’m sorry but this kind of thinking is non-sense. There are surely a few cases where someone lets power go to their head, but that happens in every place where humans have any power.

I’m on an HOA board because no else wants to because it’s boring. We maintain a large green space with walking paths and a community pool, and garbage pickup. We have whites, blacks, asians, hispanics, etc and nobody cares. Sometimes there is shared land in a development that has to be managed and somebody has to do it.

DougN7··on Robot Videos: Heavy Lift Cargo Drones, Grippers, More
Agree - felt like a waste of time to watch it
DougN7··on More than 10 firms pay up to $100k a month for access to Truth Social posts
I’m sure you could make a ton of money on oil if you had a 30 minute heads up about whether Trump was going to bomb Iran or not on any given day.
DougN7··on Less Coffee, Better Sleep
Not the above poster but lookup “sleep hygiene”. A lot of the recommendations are solid and have helped me too, especially about fixing a regular sleep schedule.
DougN7··on Does Speaking to Agents Like Cavemen Save 65% of Tokens? We Test
I don’t know about the rest of you, but the bulk of my token usage is not what I type in - it’s that data the AI is processing for me. I’m shocked they even got an 8% reduction.
DougN7··on Nvidia's $750B in Deals Reignite Circular AI Fears
It’s such an obvious Ponzi scheme the companies should get delisted.
DougN7··on The old-school way of keeping the summer heat out of your home
Many years ago I lived in a brick apartment and the afternoon/evening sun would hit the wall next to my bedroom, making it very hot at night. I started going out with buckets of water to splash on the wall a few times each evening and it made a real difference. A white sheet hung across the wall might have helped more. Lots of things can be done if you don’t mind looking silly :) Unless you’re in the an area with high temp and high humidity. That is bad.
DougN7··on Show HN: HART OS – an open-source AI OS built so frontier AI needs no datacenter
You will get MUCH more uptake and discussion if _you_ write that main github readme page. Many, and I’m becoming one too, won’t bother reading if you couldn’t be bothered to write.
DougN7··on Show HN: Echo – Fable-level results at 1/3 the cost using open-weight models
That is really a great insight!
DougN7··on 'We used acid to sabotage Microsoft hyperscale data centre construction'
I have a friend (engineer) working on a data center in Texas. It is closed loop. What’s interesting is the chillers have so much condensation that they pump it out to sprinklers which water the desert which now has grass growing. So at least water doesn’t seem to be as big of an objection now. Power though? Still a problem.
DougN7··on 'We used acid to sabotage Microsoft hyperscale data centre construction'
Too bad all those Nazi saboteurs back in the 1940’s weren’t all caught and dealt with! (Right?)
DougN7··on CVE-2026-59208: Cross-Issuer Account Takeover in n8n
I figured n8n was another annoying acronym I didn’t know. So after clicking to the article, and then the repo, and then scanning the repo doc, I guess it’s not an acronym after all?
DougN7··on Purging George Orwell's books misses what drives the political right
I have come to the same conclusion. Not sure how we pull people towards the center.
