FinanceAnon··on Ask HN: Aren't you afraid of a possible world conflict?
I try not to worry about things that are not up to me. I will die at some point anyway.
FinanceAnon··on Toblerone to change design under ‘Swissness’ rules
I wonder if the hidden bear will remain on the logo
FinanceAnon··on Twitter locks staff out of offices until next week
He could be trolling?
FinanceAnon··on Reversible and irreversible decisions (2018)
I use this model a lot in life. I like to remember about this when in arguments with someone - once you say something that you later regret, it's very difficult to take it back.
FinanceAnon··on Ask HN: What's happening with Gmail spam filtering?
Yes, several phishing emails got through to my gmail in the last couple of weeks, which never happened before
FinanceAnon··on Meatless meat is nothing new

FinanceAnon··on Tutors / tips to change your English accent
Write down a list of words that you do not pronounce as you want. Record yourself reading them out loud, listen back to it and try to say it better next time. You can also create some sentences from those words and read them.
FinanceAnon··on Scientists have finally found the potential “cure” for baldness
He could start taking finasteride/propecia. If he was getting a hair transplant, he would have to take it anyway so his hairline doesn't recede further behind the transplanted hair.
FinanceAnon··on Scientists have finally found the potential “cure” for baldness
Cure already exists - finasteride
FinanceAnon··on Shopify to lay off 10% of workers in broad shake-up
What I don't get about these lay-offs, is that these companies usually start hiring again soon after
FinanceAnon··on Ask HN: Why do I struggle to follow corporate meetings?
Pro-tip: if you have to say something in a meeting, but you don't know what to say, just ask "what's the timeline on this?"
FinanceAnon··on Understanding how others relate to you
I think this model is over-simplified and not useful. The main problem in my opinion is that it's one sided.

A good question to ask would be what is your label in how you relate to someone else - I think almost no-one would label themselves as a 'Shapeshifter' or 'Hater'. Even if you didn't like someone, you wouldn't say that you are a hater, but you are being rational in your dislike for them.

FinanceAnon··on Understanding how others relate to you
Some models are useful, but this one isn't. I guess you can just label me as a 'Hater'
FinanceAnon··on What should you do with stock options during a recession?
I would just hold it - I have sold most of my index fund holdings in the past 6-9 months and been just holding cash. I don't think stocks have reached the bottom yet, so holding cash at 0% return is still better than negative returns from stocks. Right now, it's about not taking losses. I also don't see the market and economy rebounding quickly after reaching bottom - they will stay flat for a while IMHO
FinanceAnon··on Does the Tank Have a Future?

FinanceAnon··on Scotland starts renewed case for independence
Ireland has a population of 5 million, Scotland 5.5 million.
FinanceAnon··on Coinbase is rescinding already-accepted job offers
I think OpenInsider has a good interface for this: http://openinsider.com/COIN
FinanceAnon··on Ask HN: Burnt-out, directionless but want to turn it around
A lot of negative self talk that I think you should work on improving. Try CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) - you can do a lot of it by yourself

>Unfortunately, I have never been a rockstar programmer

>I've already wasted my entire teens and 20s

>a bigger loser for not being able to solve problems

Those are all biased opinions. You can take a break from work, but by itself this will not change the way you think

FinanceAnon··on Ask HN: How do you handle boredom?
You cannot defeat boredom just like you cannot defeat your shadow. You can only embrace it
FinanceAnon··on 100-year-old Brazilian breaks record after 84 years at same company
Technically, he is breaking his record every day that he doesn't quit
FinanceAnon··on Ask HN: How to stop using food delivery apps?
Learn how to cook yourself. Pick some recipe and fucking cook that shit.
FinanceAnon··on I decided that I must live my life on my terms
I've never heard of Alex Hormozi, but from googling it looks like he is a typical youtube guru selling scam courses on how to get rich. Seriously, I wouldn't listen to anything that he says.
FinanceAnon··on Study conspiracy theories with compassion
That's why I think conspiracy theories can be a threat to democracy. They try to convice people that the free and open societies that they live in, are actually not free and open. Some of them can be right (e.g. Snowden leaks), but personally I think what we currently have is better than the alternatives. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
FinanceAnon··on Study conspiracy theories with compassion
Let's say that you live in a democratic country, where over hundreds of years you regularly hold democratic elections. One day, a new presidential candidate says that if he wins, he will turn this country into a totalitarian state - this country will never have another democratic election and a chance to vote him out. 51% vote for him and he wins. Is that fair or a loophole in democracy?

A lot of conspiracy theories these days are anti-West and anti-democracy.

FinanceAnon··on Study conspiracy theories with compassion
> For most of the time no one will thank you for doing something that way

That's still would be a good outcome. More likely, is that conspiracy theories would appear about that person's work and they would start facing abuse.

You could cure cancer, and there would be a number of people who would hate you for it.

You just can't make everyone happy.

FinanceAnon··on I let a baby bird nest in my hair for 84 days
From the headline, I imagined that for 3 months she carried a nest made of wooden branches on her head. Very disappointing that it wasn't the case.
FinanceAnon··on Contraceptive pill for males is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy
Balls are very fragile though
FinanceAnon··on Study show that people think that data analysts and accountants are boring
I think for many people the definition of boring is:

- anything that I don't understand

- anything that forces me to think

FinanceAnon··on Ask HN: What book changed your life?
"I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”
FinanceAnon··on China to provide 5 mln yuan worth of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine
How could it not have been turned into a major international incident?

It feels weird even calling this 'an incident'. It's not like they invaded by mistake
