The following sentences are an example of what I was saying:
"I sent the N.D.A. to N.Y. It arrived three days later."
The single space after the "A" in "N.D.A." indicates that the sentence has not ended even though there is a period.
I got one paying customer for it a while later so I decided to go ahead and make it more asthetically pleasing. That is the reason I decided to focus on this instead. I am working on numerous projects, but this is the only one that I actually have some people using so I thought I would put more effort into it and wanted some feedback.
It might be mistaken for a collapse/expand option, but people have been conditioned that + and - or the down arrow and right arrows are for that.
If it had a stick indicating the bottom protruding from it, it would appear to be a direction rather than an action link.
The reasons for clicking may not be symmetrical, but the actions when clicking are symmetrical. The points go down with the down arrow and the points go up with the up arrow. This is symmetry even if the reason (agree, disagree, quality, spam, etc.) for the increase and decline of the points is asymmetrical.
You mentioned that changing your lifestyle has made you healthier, but that has been mentioned to me by my doctor every time I visit! Eat healthy, get plenty of rest, and exercise. We have heard this many times before. This is not some magical secret to a healthy life. Many people simply do not possess the willpower to do it. There are companies that profit from unhealthy choices because our bodies crave those unhealthy choices, but it does not mean there is some conspiracy by scientists to prevent drugs from reaching the market that can cure cancer.
The cure would be more profitable because over a long enough time line, cancer returns. People that get cancer are often predisposed to getting it in the first place.
Real programming projects are best. I think one of the best methods would be to give a person a reasonable assignment that should only take a couple hours to complete (if that long) and ask for the results within a few days. (This will give them plenty of time to clean it up, add surprising features, and create a nice design and front-end after they are finished with it. A day can be used for the promise of completion, and the remaining time can be used to overdeliver.)
Back to the trademark defense, there are already solutions to protect the trademarks. I obviously would not have gotten away with registering the .google TLD even if I had $185,000 to do it.
If you want to do anything with databases, you will want to use MySQL with something like phpMyAdmin to help you create your databases. Learning MySQL is important, but if you just want to get started, you can use phpMyAdmin at first. When you are ready to be a real web developer, though, you will want to learn the following:
• HTML, CSS, Javascript • Basic Linux commands with a SSH login • Use something like WinSCP instead of FTP programs • MySQL • Object oriented programming in the language of your choice and how to make your code modular • (PHP with a framework like Yii or CakePHP) or (Ruby on Rails)
I recommend simply playing at first. Always remember to abstract and encapsulate whenever you can. This is a good habit and can make learning easier because you basically start to form your own meta-language in this way and things are easier to learn if you are the one that created them.
I listen to a large variety of music, but for programming, I normally listen to heavy metal and recently I have been listening to dubstep. It is my favorites of what I would normally listen to, though. I find it best to keep the playlist short, though. After hearing the same thing repeatedly, it becomes background noise and only pulls me out of focus periodically. Like I said, that can also be a good thing.
