Yes. Yi-34b is competitive with Llama2-70b which is often competitive with gpt 3.5. GPT-4 is on its own level atm but the point is that China has already created a good model that effectively beats Meta's current best.
Ummm, I just looked at that list. If you spread out an investment over those companies... I'm pretty sure you're doing damn well despite obviously having a few under performers. Since 1970, Disney grew 3500% faster than inflation. Walmart grew 2000% faster than inflation. Even with the companies that went to 0, there are some insanely good buys in that list if the year was 1970.
Companies (and people) take on debt to invest in themselves, knowing the growth can (hopefully) pay off the debt and generate more income in the long run. Here's a fun list of companies with debt:

In the case of students, the idea is to take some debt now and pay it off with increased earnings. The problem is, those increased earnings aren't guaranteed and students are way worse at determining the return on their debt than companies with dedicated teams.
I don't know anyone who hates apple that much. This way, you still get the reputation and thrill. The only people left are malicious actors, like state sponsored attacks.
This is what I took away too. Its just so against the "spirit" of why the 2a was put in. Assuming every history teacher I've ever had wasn't lying to me. If that's the case, I've got bigger issues to deal with lol.
I love AirBnB on paper, but in practice, its just too ripe with issues. So many similarities to Uber too. Socialize the costs, privatize the revenue. Use litigation to fight to keep the loopholes open. At least Uber isn't screwing with the housing market, that I know of.
Right? I remember watching awful cam rips back in the day. I'm always so busy these days, 90% of the long-form content I watch is on my tablet riding the bus on my commute. Movies are different, but I can't remember the last time I was inclined to see a tv show above 720p. This is all personal anecdotes, but still.
Absolutely. Even in this thread there are arguments about there being dark areas where the cameras can't see so they won't be effective enough. Nothing was learned from no child left behind. 100% policies don't work.
They do. In my experience, every query containing PII was logged. I trust it since I got a stern talking to when I emailed my private email some code I wrote for an unrelated side-project while at work. Lesson learned.
That's a good question. I don't think the government cares enough about snowden to do that. Snowden's damage has been done. It can't be reversed. Imo, they'd be much more interested to preemptively shutdown all future would-be Snowdens.
I'm genuinely curious how many iPhones are sold in Turkey. Important to note, I just read that Turkey already had the 2nd most expensive iPhones in the world, behind Brazil, due to tariffs.
I had a buddy in college whose main hobby was sending foias. The amount of information he was able to collect on me and all of our friends since it was a public university was astounding. He wrote a little google map applet that matched the student base's names to their parent's homes. He only showed about 6 of us what he did and we were all horrified and amazed at the same time. I miss CpE college.
Thank you so much for the advice! It definitely changes how I'm approaching it. I would definitely be willing to own less of a stake if it meant working full time at less than my current salary.
I have a full time job doing web development. I can afford it in terms of money, but its starting to burn me out. I didn't even think that was possible until this past weekend. The only real issue is that they're close friends. No one has invested a penny financially and the only time investment is a few weekly meetings.
Also, they obviously think their idea is worth a fortune. How do I explain the idea is worth about 10% and the other 90% is coming from all the hours I've put into it?
Exactly. As long as they're paying the same tax towards public education as everyone else, I don't see a problem. Whether it is enough or being used effectively is up in the air however.
