Zerto | Technical Marketing | Full-time | Remote (US/CA/UK)

Zerto is the leader in ransomware recovery, disaster recovery, and multi-cloud mobility—full spectrum data protection across on-premises and cloud (including AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, and MSPs).

I'm hiring for two critical roles in Tech Marketing, a team within the broader Product Marketing department that's focused on technical messaging, enablement, tech evangelism, and competitive analyses:

* Technical Marketing Engineer: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/2887537463/

* Technical Marketing Manager, Competitive Intelligence: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/2884073171/

These positions are ideal for people from outside of Marketing who want to pivot their career slightly, especially presales engineers/architects (of course, current tech marketers welcome too!).

Both roles are remote-friendly, but you're also more than welcome to work out of our Boston office. Learn more and apply here: https://www.zerto.com/careers

GnomeChomsky··on The Worsening State of Ransomware
Except then you're losing hours and hours of data during a restore. CDP, on the other hands, results in data loss of seconds only. Particularly powerful when combined with archiving in, say, AWS with tiering and object locking for immutability.

Zerto | Remote | Full-time | http://app.jobvite.com/m?3j1Q7lw7

Hiring for 12+ roles around the world—including US, UK, and Israel—but I am mostly here to plug the Senior Competitive Intelligence position. This opening on the Technical Marketing team is perfect for someone who loves getting hands-on with enterprise tech and then sharing what you've learned with a wider audience.

We are particularly looking for someone with deep experience in the data protection, disaster recovery, and cloud migration spaces. That is, if you don't have experience doing competitive work, but are/were an SE or technical marketer in this industry (e.g. at Veeam, Commvault, Cohesity, Rubrik, Veritas, Dell EMC etc) then you might be a good fit. Zerto has some seriously cool tech and is changing the way companies protect & recover their data—including after ransomware so orgs can, well, avoid a 4.5M or 10M ransom.

GnomeChomsky··on LinkedIn will now let you quietly signal when you’re looking for a job
"Dan Shapero, LinkedIn’s Careers product lead, told me that if you turn on Open Candidates, the “looking for new work” signal will only be beamed out to recruiters who are not in any way connected to the place where you currently work. That means that even if you are looking, you won’t jeapordize your current job in the process."

GnomeChomsky··on How Netflix Reinvented HR (2014)
I think I prefer a "minimum vacation days" policy—e.g. each employee has to take 20 days, but you're free to take more as needed.

GnomeChomsky··on Google moves to replace Flash with HTML5
Not to mention the massive elearning industry which has many, many years' worth of training content in Flash. Products like Captivate and Articulate can export to HTML5 these days, but converting existing content is a huge feat.

(FWIW here's where Adobe Captivate is with HTML5 support: https://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/publish-projects-htm...)

I want to highlight the eLearning Developer opening (http://app.jobvite.com/m?3GXSZiwh). We need an instructional designer who's very capable in Adobe Captivate, but if you know HTML5 (particularly JavaScript) and/or Flash please feel free to apply—we can teach you Captivate, and this could be a good chance to take your frontend skills in a slightly different direction than what you may be used to.

If you're interested in virtualization, data protection, disaster recovery—or just working on interesting technical challenges—then we might be right for you. We're hiring for 30+ technical roles: http://app.jobvite.com/m?3FcLEhw2

Openings range from DevOps to backend developers to project managers. Technologies include e.g. C#, C++, .NET, and Lucene/Solr; given our space, familiarity with VMware, Hyper-V, AWS, or Azure obviously a huge plus.

We also have dozens of non-technical openings as well: http://app.jobvite.com/m?3SfLEhwi. Includes lots of account managers, and some sales & marketing; these openings are often remote and much more geographically diverse, including Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, UK (Reading, typically), Germany, India, etc.

GnomeChomsky··on Windows 10 to be a recommended update in early 2016
I had a couple bosses that eventually gave up on "learnings" and shortened it to "learns".

As in, "Let's memorialize the learns so we don't disrupt this value-add in the future."

GnomeChomsky··on Jeff Bezos Says Amazon Won’t Tolerate ‘Callous’ Management Practices
What's frustrating is that it, of course, doesn't have to be rotten. We can take one baby step by abolishing terms like "human resources" and "human capital" because labels do matter.

I also wonder if part of the problem is that HR leaders have (broadly speaking) traditionally been 'town planners' when you really need a mix of 'pioneers' and 'settlers' in there too. E.g. don't put a town planner in charge of culture & retention, and don't put a settler in charge of healthcare & benefits compliance.

(Ref: http://blog.gardeviance.org/2012/06/pioneers-settlers-and-to...)

GnomeChomsky··on Jeff Bezos Says Amazon Won’t Tolerate ‘Callous’ Management Practices
Aren't people with "despicable morals and class" in every profession? Some of us are actually in HR because we like thinking critically & creatively behind the scenes to make others successful. I totally get why that might not describe the HR teams you've encountered, but I don't think we can all be characterized with such a broad brush.
GnomeChomsky··on Reinventing Performance Management
I understand the sentiment, but the concept is spreading. Adobe, Netflix, Juniper, Accenture all have or are re-thinking their performance management models. Atlassian has been influential here too, and one of the architects of their revamp has now moved to the Broad Institute. CEB, which is very influential in the HR world, has adopted these new approaches and are actively recommending them to clients. Samuel Culbert, a UCLA professor, has been very visible on this front, and people like Josh Bersin and Marcus Buckingham (co-author of linked HBR article) are really well-known in HR circles.

It will, of course, take a long time to undo the Jack Welch and command-oriented mindsets. However, I do think there's hope that strategic HR departments can re-orient companies toward processes & policies that care less about compliance with HR bullshit and more about actual coaching, feedback, and development.

(Disclaimer: I re-designed an employer's performance framework & process, so I am biased toward folks who are trying to push HR toward people-oriented, trust-based programs that are designed for the vast, vast majority of employees who don't need old-school performance "management.")

Hi, any chance you're hiring for any non-technical roles at this time?
GnomeChomsky··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (July 2015)
Location: Boston

Remote: Yes

Relocation: Yes

Technologies: HRIT—e.g. LMS, HRIS, ATS, EPMS etc. Some HTML & CSS, and some Adobe Creative.

Resume: http://www.kcole.net

Unlike most on here, I'm not a developer or an engineer or a sysadmin. While I recently got my first Rails app online, you should probably not hire me to code for you.

However, do get in touch if you need someone passionate about supporting and empowering your staff—someone who can tackle your operations, people strategy, and talent management functions so you can focus on your core business. If you're tired of staid, rules-oriented, tech-illiterate HR, then let's chat so I can hear about your needs and priorities.

I'm looking for a place where I can work hard and have a big impact; in return, I'm hoping to land in an org that cares less about beer & ping-pong and more about having collaborative, kind, and very competent people.
