Group_B··on New gTLD Application for .lan
so so dumb. Pure greed. This is going to cause so many issues
Group_B··on Delivery drivers will get minimum wage in Australia's 'world-first' deal
We are almost full circle with going back to taxis. They want to cap the number of drivers. Maybe there’s some way to cap it with this thing called a license. Well played everyone!
Group_B··on Ask HN: GitHub employees what's going on? Why?
I think Microsoft will add in a daily or monthly commit limit. Gonna have to pay for commits that exceed it. Will stop the commit spam
Group_B··on 'VPNs are lawful technical tools,' says EU Court in landmark copyright ruling

Group_B··on AWS: Inaccurate Estimated Billing Data – $1.7 billion
Yeah nearly had a heart attack this morning. Thought keys were leaked for a sec.
Group_B··on US House of Representatives takes step to make daylight saving time permanent
Technically no. Work and School dictate when we get up and go to bed. It's all relative. We could create a timezone where 12:00PM is in the morning. We are just used to this idea that morning, afternoon, evening, and night need to correspond to specific time values. For example, China uses just one timezone. So local regions just adapt to what logically makes sense. In a perfect world, local regions would adapt to the amount of daylight we have for each season, like it was before timekeeping and timezones. So school and work would shift when they start based off the rising of the sun. This isn't practical though for multiple reasons. It would cause chaos and confusion for work shifts, scheduling etc.

Group_B··on GitHub Is Down
I'm moving everything to self hosted GitLab CE now. Will just use GitHub as a backup. This is so ridiculous at this point.

Group_B··on Jeffgeerling.com has been migrated to Hugo
I've been using Hugo for the past 3 years. Biggest lesson I learned is to just fork the theme you're using and don't use submodules. There's no rush in keeping your theme up to date. Also you have complete control over the theme when its forked. I've only had stuff break on occasion when updating to a newer version of Hugo, had to change a couple things with the theme which did not take too long to fix. Curious to see how comments will be implemented though. Does not sound straightforward to add to a SSG.
Group_B··on Daft Punk Easter Egg in the BPM Tempo of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger?
Yes, I am thinking this is mostly just a coincidence.
Group_B··on My insulin pump controller uses the Linux kernel. It also violates the GPL
I'm thinking we probably need to get more organized and start picking up the pace with this. There are rumors, which of course I am not sure how credible, but word is that the Dash will be discontinued soon. Maybe we can add another channel to the Zulip to try to get things moving.
Group_B··on Rainbow Six Siege hacked as players get billions of credits and random bans
Can’t help but laugh a bit. Not a great day for Ubisoft. Hopefully this didn’t ruin the holidays for too many employees. That would absolutely suck to get a call in for this.
Group_B··on My insulin pump controller uses the Linux kernel. It also violates the GPL
Anyway to follow the progress? I attended the Nightscout conference and asked around regarding this but no one really knew of any group to follow. Or really knew of the latest developments on this effort.
Group_B··on My insulin pump controller uses the Linux kernel. It also violates the GPL
No it's true. Companies like Insulet and Dexcom could send out lawsuits to all the open source projects out there that involved REing. Dexcom's glucose share API was REed years ago, and Dexcom hasn't even tried updating or stopping the use of unofficial APIs. All I'm saying is that the companies really don't care at all.
Group_B··on My insulin pump controller uses the Linux kernel. It also violates the GPL
Oh well. The whole thing has already been reverse engineered. Look up Loop or Trio or OpenAPS. Diabetic companies like Insulet have been very lax when it’s come to the hacking of their devices. This isn’t really that big a deal. What we need right now is help REing the Omnipod 5
Group_B··on Framework Raises DDR5 Memory Prices by 50% for DIY Laptops
This is not the same at all
Group_B··on Emacs is my new window manager (2015)
Alarm bells will be going off for any company that takes DLP seriously.
Group_B··on GitHub Actions has a package manager, and it might be the worst
I was just writing about how crazy it is to use the third-party ssh tool

Group_B··on Americans are holding onto devices longer than ever and it's costing the economy
This is simply a rage bait article. They know what they’re doing publishing this. We don’t need stuff like this on HN.
Group_B··on Zohran Mamdani wins the New York mayoral race
It still did a lot of good, but didn’t solve the root causes of our terrible healthcare system. It’s more of bandage on the system we have.
Group_B··on Accessing Max Verstappen's passport and PII through FIA bugs
There's probably another rockyou out there waiting to happen
Group_B··on OpenAI Needs $400B In The Next 12 Months
At this point we all know this is just a massive bubble. I'm done paying attention to it really. I'm prepared for all my investments to go down in the next 1-5 years. If you're nearing retirement now is the time to cash out. Yes, investments could go up in a value a lot until the correction, but I don't really think that is worth the risk.
Group_B··on The dangerous intimacy of social location sharing
> When I was in the ICU for a few days (thankfully due to medical confusion and not a real condition) people reached out to see if I was ok and needed anything. I know people who discovered that a mutual friend died unexpectedly when their phone had been at the morgue for several days.

I feel like this kind of information can be found out by just naturally talking with others. Viewing your friend's and family's location all the time is just so unnecessary and overkill. If something is wrong, you simply reach out to others, they don't need to be actively checking your location to determine that. Yeah obviously the exception is crazy emergencies, but I think most people would take their chances than be this open to location sharing. Kids too make sense. Other than that, I don't believe location sharing to this degree should be normalized at all.
