HardCodedBias··on Alphabet Announces Third Quarter 2026 Results [pdf]
Kill it as in "awesome financial results"
HardCodedBias··on Alphabet Announces Third Quarter 2026 Results [pdf]
1. Cloud killed it.

2. Youtube meh, like always (weird that it doesn't kill it)

3. Search -- this was the issue. QonQ 0.1% <-- the whole story

Everyone has expected Search to, sooner or later, crack. This looks like it may be it.

If Google had 30B in revenue from coding tools and a few billion from Gemini Enterprise then there would be a story that Google could get through this.

But GDM didn't execute. And that's that.

Who knows the bottom. More than 10-15% seems unlikely. But if search cracks again next quarter then we'll see a real revaluing of the business.

Google did not have the proper focus on AI. They should have owned the space. But there were clearly management issues.

HardCodedBias··on Anthropic S-1
Excellent products, even world changing products does not mean shareholder returns in Anthropic’s case.

Even if Claude meets all of our wildest goals and earns trillions yearly there is absolutely no “guarantee” that any will flow to shareholders.

1. Shareholders do not have control of the company due to its structure. The Trust controls through class T shares. As a backup the founders control through class F shares.

2. Since the company is a PBC its board is allowed balance dividends with other social benefits as they see fit.

This means that even if Anthropic is wildly successful as shareholders have no general legal claim to compel the company to distribute those profits.

It is absurd that with a 2T IPO upcoming this is not front and center.

HardCodedBias··on What’s getting pwned right now
Nah. You're a Leftist.
HardCodedBias··on What’s getting pwned right now
Leftist?
HardCodedBias··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
Absurdity. Advertising claims become legally binding, and we multiply "offenses" by distribution.

Let's apply that throughout the economy. All companies are now bankrupt. All stocks are liquidated and the remaining value (such that it is) is now distributed to lawyers and some to the people.

We've lost our minds.

HardCodedBias··on OpenAI CLI
Normally this would be a silly endeavor given the cost.

But given the cost of implementation is low, why not do this!

Good job OAI!

HardCodedBias··on What’s getting pwned right now
Beautiful website, well done.

An over time graph with a rolling window of 7d and 28d would likely be a nice addition.

Great work!

HardCodedBias··on DeepSeek banned from U.S. federal civilian agencies under new DHS order
It is logical for governments to ban it.

We don't know what we don't know. It would be crazy not to ban it, unless it gave truly better performance. It doesn't.

HardCodedBias··on DeepSeek just open-sourced its inference engine
Just another tour de force from DeepSeek.

I'm not saying that the US labs (Anthropic, OpenAI, and Meta) aren't pulling their weight, they are all doing amazing work as well, but Deepseek may belong in that tier.

HardCodedBias··on Amazon blocks Meta’s new Muse AI agent from shopping on amazon.com
A remarkable display of market power by Amazon.

Probably to protect their advertising business which is very strong.

We’ll see how this plays out.

HardCodedBias··on Watch Los Angeles get built, one building at a time (1880–2026)
Well done! What an illustration of the amazing spirit of the founders, followed by the glacial movement as we allowed NIMBYs to take control through more and more laws.

Brilliant.

HardCodedBias··on If a Tesla Cybercab fleet were profitable, Tesla wouldn't sell you one
It's more than that, Tesla owns the brand, the manufacturing, and the software.

They are much more than McDonalds.

But indeed your comparison is an apt way to reply to this "article".

HardCodedBias··on How concerned should we be about Astra's recurrent architecture?
It is a complete non-issue.

It’s 200 layer model.

Great. Good on them for being able to train it.

HardCodedBias··on GPT-6 Astra
Even though the model is clearly wonderful the launch video is an abomination.

That gives me hope that there is still areas to improve.

What a bad launch video. Hilarious.

What a powerful model.

HardCodedBias··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
The system goes online September 29th, 2026. Astra begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, September 3rd. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
HardCodedBias··on Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber
I have to say:

The Google brand remains powerful on HN!

I’m shocked.

HardCodedBias··on Meta faces 'astronomical' consequences as legal fight reaches critical moment
This is madness.

Our laws in this area are insane : COPPA is very broad. Meta attempted to comply but the state is arguing “willful-blindness” (which makes sense for meta, PII restrictions are very strict). But the lawyers will argue post-hoc that Meta “should have done more” these standards are so vague and argued after the fact that they make a mockery of our system.

Then the state laws being leveraged are crazy broad. California competition law as well as advertising law is being leveraged.

My god, it has to stop.

We’re far past the point of “show me the man, I’ll show you the crime.”

HardCodedBias··on Muse Glimmer: 30B-parameter model optimized for always-on local agent workflows
I think the record is quite clear, GDM was never in the race.

All of the Gemini models have been considerably behind the capabilities frontier. The only exception was 3.0 which seemed quite good, but had latent issues and we were all measuring with the incorrect metric, agentic where it's latent issues were very pronounced.

GDM+Google may have created an exceptionally efficient LLM for serving search. This is likely a great accomplishment (or maybe Google is burning money at a rate unheard of before). But Frontier capability: they have never been in the race.

This is sad, since they had everything necessary to be on or beyond the frontier.

HardCodedBias··on Muse Glimmer: 30B-parameter model optimized for always-on local agent workflows
GDM -- Ok, I'll bite. Why are you including them?
HardCodedBias··on Muse Glimmer: 30B-parameter model optimized for always-on local agent workflows
This is Apache 2.0, which is quite permissive. Just accept the gift.

These kind of responses are hilarious.

Someone gives something for free (and indeed this is entirely free) and the top comment is pure complaint.

HardCodedBias··on Meta Muse Glimmer – Open weights 30B local coding model
LOL the mogging of GDM is hilarious.

I don't know why MSL released this, but it is very nice that they did.

HardCodedBias··on DeepMind's WeatherNext model achieves breakthrough forecasting cyclones
And this is why GDM has to go. It's crazy that when Google is struggling so badly that efforts like this that have no path to revenue at all were funded.

GDM management really thought that they were some kind of charity. UNREAL.

HardCodedBias··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
"Gary Marcus' has a good take "

I think that is an oxymoron.

HardCodedBias··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
I don't think that the research is as conclusive as the article makes it out to be ( I know he links ).

I would consider this: maybe useful, do it if you find it entertaining.

HardCodedBias··on Kimi K3, and what we can still learn from the pelican benchmark
A person from Google famously put on her linkedin that her job was to optimize SVG for Gemini 3.0.
HardCodedBias··on GPT-5.6 Sol Ultra produces proof of the Cycle Double Cover Conjecture [pdf]
It's great that a novel math proof was created.

But this is mostly marketing, pleasing the sneering class/the elites who believe that simply providing value for others (through sales) is repugnant and beneath them.

It seems that these tools can do real work, and people are paying for that. IMO, that is more than sufficient.

HardCodedBias··on Grok 4.5
Google Brain invented the transformer.

GDM ... not so much.

HardCodedBias··on Grok 4.5
This is the correct take.

It's an unbelievable failure.

HardCodedBias··on Grok 4.5
Big if true. If so they have mogged Google, and GDM in particular very, very badly.

Google Deepmind has failed.

Flash 3.5 seems capable for a flash model, Antigravity seems like a reasonable harness. But GDM is responsible for the frontier model and it looks like a complete failure.

What's particularly galling is the size of funding of GDM. It is enormous compared to the other labs. The headcount of other labs is swollen by infra, marketing, sales, GDM is pure "engineering" and its frontier model isn't even leading open source.

What a failure. It's unreal.
