HelloBeautiful··on Stack Overflow Makes Slow Pages 100x Faster By Simple SQL Tuning
Remember 200 years ago when industrial pollution was a solved problem?
HelloBeautiful··on Woman removes SIM card from smart energy meter, uses $193k of 3G data
No, she got the proper punishment for stealing from the corporate masters of US. She'll be trapped by the prison industry for the rest of her life.

EDIT: OK, my bad. But Australia is run by the same ppl in the same way. NWO and the world government are around the corner anyway :D

HelloBeautiful··on Sony loses 12,700 credit card numbers
Lows and rules don't apply to mega-corps like Sony, Amazon, Ebay/PayPal, Google, Apple, etc. They all have no problem storing all this together with address, SSN and everything else.
HelloBeautiful··on It's happened: Microsoft Moves Scott Gu to Head Up Azure
>> With 4.0, C# and the platform has really matured from its origins as a Java clone

So LINQ, proper generics, indexers, first class properties, delegates, events, using blocks, lambdas ... were cloned from Java?

HelloBeautiful··on The Hot/Crazy Solid State Drive Scale
5 SSDs here, got the oldest 2.5 years ago. No failures so far. I've run them as system drives, DB storage and so on.

I'd think a reason for quick wear out may be swap memory. I've never put a swap file/partition on mine.

HelloBeautiful··on Antihydrogen Trapped For 1000 Seconds
>> which are not thought to exist

which have been observed a few times in colliders

HelloBeautiful··on Rootkit on a Brand new Toshiba laptop
How would you react if you find the builder of your home has installed hidden cameras in every single room? If you somehow find about it and call him he'll turn them off. No big deal, right? If you're a proper person you have nothing to hide anyway ...
HelloBeautiful··on Netflix Is Killing BitTorrent in The US
That is a bad news. If the movie industry succeeds in getting rid of privacy, the prices of Netflix subscriptions, BR disks, movie tickets, etc. will go way way up ... And those money won't go anywhere near the artists and other content producers. Plus ppl will be unable to use free software like Linux and Firefox to watch movies.
HelloBeautiful··on Google, Can Indie Stone Have Their Money?
Mailing cash is obviously very different from a Bitcoin transfer (speed, security, legal issues).
HelloBeautiful··on Google, Can Indie Stone Have Their Money?
>> Bitcoin doesn't remove banks

Yes, it does in this case. One can receive money electronically through Bitcoin, without account with a bank, PayPal or Google.

HelloBeautiful··on SETI Institute suspends search for aliens
Seth Shostak's podcast - http://radio.seti.org/ . Highly recommended ;-)
HelloBeautiful··on Ask HN: How can I (illegal immigrant/programmer) get legal status in US?
If you're in a state that allows gay marriage and have a non-married co-founder with citizenship ...

I'd just keep talking with immigration layers, until someone gives me a way out.

HelloBeautiful··on Complexity is the enemy
>> Aim for C-style abstractions in Python.

Worst programming advice ever IMHO. As Sir Isaac Newton used to say: "If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants." If you think and program in simple abstractions, you'll be unable to solve complex problems.

HelloBeautiful··on Challenge HN: Can you decrypt these messages? [pdf]
It's real.

HelloBeautiful··on Petrodollar Warfare -- AKA the "Oil Currency Wars"
The root cause seems to be the existence of independent central banks in those countries. That is what allows them to switch the trade to euros and provokes occupation by NATO.
HelloBeautiful··on Petrodollar Warfare -- AKA the "Oil Currency Wars"
Yes, really. There is a huge amount of US dollars circling in the oil trade. If those were instead used to buy non-oil stuff, the price of non-oil things will go way up and so the value of dollar way down.

Scribd link is auto added by HN system if the original URL ends with '.pdf'.
HelloBeautiful··on Amazon Web Services are down
You don't understand, Skynet is using all Amazon resources, hence the outages ;-)

Amazon have stated many times that amazon.com itself runs mostly on AWS platform, but it works fine now ...

HelloBeautiful··on Have you ever printed a boarding pass?
>> Can't see why it wouldn't work.

There is a great (no sarcasm) air company in your country, called Ryanair. Don't even try it with them :D

HelloBeautiful··on Hashify.me - store entire website content in the URL
There is no max length in the standard. Of course every browser has a max it can handle. For IE it is 2000 characters.
HelloBeautiful··on Hashify.me - store entire website content in the URL
End users are given bit.ly URL with a hash.
HelloBeautiful··on Hashify.me - store entire website content in the URL
No ;-)
HelloBeautiful··on Apple Files Patent Suit Against Samsung Over Galaxy Line of Phones and Tablets
Apple did sue Microsoft over Windows interface.

I wonder how Bill Gates feels nowadays for saving Apple, when Steve Jobs got back. Without MS moral support - promising future releases of Mac Office, and a ton of money - Apple would've probably went bust than.

HelloBeautiful··on Apple Files Patent Suit Against Samsung Over Galaxy Line of Phones and Tablets
Maybe because of Google Maps on iDevices. Very hard to replace, as there are only 3 companies, including Google, who own somewhat global routing maps.
HelloBeautiful··on Apple Files Patent Suit Against Samsung Over Galaxy Line of Phones and Tablets
>> Considering they filed a suit against Apple for infringement, I don't think that was the case.

That's a stupid comment, you even don't mention the outcome of the suit. Ppl fire suits all the time because they think they got a bad deal.

HelloBeautiful··on Google Video shutting down, disabling public downloads on April 29
