HoochTHX··on Pattern of brain damage is pervasive in Navy SEALs who died by suicide
As a 13B1O that saw all three sides of this, loading/firing, driver for platoon leader, and while deployed with orders to act in the door-to-door fashion. You are correct. I will add that while operating the gun, the percussive forces are pretty well shielded on the inside of the at least motorized versions, was a paladin crew member here.
HoochTHX··on 'I'm the new Oppenheimer ': Palantir's first-ever AI warfare conference
But don't be evil.
HoochTHX··on Palo Alto – Putting the Protecc in GlobalProtect (CVE-2024-3400)
I like the idea of that, that would allow us to judge a Product/Company based on a history of actions.
HoochTHX··on Plundervolt: Software-Based Fault Injection Attacks Against Intel SGX [pdf]
Naw. It's just the same age old issue of someone writing the design specs with the illusion it will be followed. Instead of designing it so that they can't not be followed.
HoochTHX··on Ultima Online spent years developing a system that was destroyed by players
That would explain the killer rabbits in FF Online.
HoochTHX··on Successful second round of fusion experiments with Wendelstein 7-X
No pressure vessel required. Meaning no explosion possible. Intrinsic safety by design.
HoochTHX··on NSA posters from the 50s and 60s [pdf]
Some of those are very disturbing.
HoochTHX··on How do I permanently delete my account?
The option is a lie, I did this the fall after the Snowden releases, and then this past summer decided to see if the delete actually happened after the two week period that was part of that process then, everything from my account was still there, nothing was deleted.
HoochTHX··on FBI Statement on Clinton Email System
Yes, go get digital copies of Stars and Stripes for the last ten years, and you will see many cases where Enlisted and Officers are brought up on charges, court martialed, and convicted, for things like this.
HoochTHX··on FBI quietly changes its privacy rules for accessing NSA data on Americans
"The fact Snowden was able to do what he did is proof they aren't competent enough to be trusted with that pot of gold."

This is the most compelling reason of all.

HoochTHX··on A Message to Our Customers
This is the FBI going after a Parallel Construction path. They already have all the information from the NSA bag o'tricks, but none of those can be used in court. But an unlocked phone unlocks the legal obstacles.
HoochTHX··on Hacking Team hacked, attackers claim 400GB in dumped data
That program appears to creates evidence on the target machine. I hope there will be a way to link this to the parallel construction group. Don't like the guy, plant evidence!/s
HoochTHX··on Microsoft quietly pushes 18 new trusted root certificates
This.
HoochTHX··on T-Mobile quietly hardens part of its U.S. cellular network against snooping
T-mobile user here running Cyanogenmod, dnscrypt, and other goodies, with no problem.
HoochTHX··on Universal SSL
Thank you for pointing out that this is the now-equivalent of the clipper chip. I loved the 90's, I get to wear my parachute pants again, Yay!
HoochTHX··on The Surveillance Engine: How the NSA Built Its Own Secret Google
Its not new news that Google was contracted to build the search engine[1].

"Google was also contracted to provide the search technology and servers which makes up “Intellipedia”, a massive, incredibly secure database through which over 100,000 United States spies and intelligence professionals from 16 government agencies share information. And the NSA has purchased numerous servers from Google, utilizing their search technology to analyze and organize massive amounts of secure data all over the world."

At this point I think it safe to assume its the exact same code Google used in 2010, just a bit dumber, since Googles search engine only learns by being used, and since there are far fewer using it, it learns slower.

HoochTHX··on Pakistan is a FinFisher customer, leak confirms
The idea of hiding content due to unwanted rabble rousing, at the loss of the content and discussion regarding dual use tech, strikes me as the preferd solution of someone who stands to lose business and is attempting to protect themselves. Choose what ever label you want, by any name it is still censorship, and cronyism. Moxie was right about you.
HoochTHX··on Edward Snowden will speak at HOPE X on Saturday

HoochTHX··on Capitalism isn't working and here are the reasons why
My understanding is that is actually "Crony Capitalism", which then if the article redefined it as such, I would agree.
HoochTHX··on Panel’s Warning on Climate Risk: Worst Is Yet to Come
Fear the mind killer, used too often...
HoochTHX··on AT&T Exec Calls Netflix’s Reed Hastings “Arrogant” For Net Neutrality Post
Yes it is.
HoochTHX··on On the Timing of iOS’s SSL Vulnerability and Apple’s ‘Addition’ to NSA’s PRISM
Why is it every time I read a post by you tptacek, my troll detector goes off.

Kind of makes me want to investigate what work you and your company has done for the NSA.

HoochTHX··on ‘Superbugs’ found breeding in sewage plants
Thank your for the correction, I always make at least one mistake before I've had coffee.
HoochTHX··on SteamOS: It's here
I expect to be able to actually run the game instead of it crashing as soon as I double click on the icon. I'd probably have no issue with it, if I could actually get it to run. Then there is the whole no refund issue with Steam.
HoochTHX··on ‘Superbugs’ found breeding in sewage plants
There's more than just antibiotics in wastewater, google for studies relating to the feminization of fish due to the residual levels of anti depressants in wastewater. The processes used determine what gets removed from the water. Most facilities use aerobic breeding zones, forcing extremely high volumes of air into the water to allow from friendly microbes that actually end up doing most of the real work digesting the waste. Microbes don't eat everything, so expecting them to eat the all of the unwanted products in the sewage is not going to happen. To get everything, you would need first research to identify bugs that eat the particular thing your wanted disposed of, and then a new zone at treatment plants for that process. Its real easy to say yeah they should remove this, but when you get into the details to understand why its not happening you begin to see this is a massive undertaking.
HoochTHX··on ‘Superbugs’ found breeding in sewage plants
UV is used in some wastewater reclamation plants, it is the new how shit as of about 10 years ago. But with all things the volume of water being treated determines which processes are used, I know of a UV only plant that processes 37million gallons a day via UV. Thirty minutes away at a larger facility that treats 150million gallons a day they use chlorine only. These are massive facilities, and to change the processes used is a massive undertaking, expecting them to be able to pivot over night is not realistic.
HoochTHX··on SteamOS: It's here
Godus has those very issues.
HoochTHX··on Ask HN: Getting paid to work on open source full-time?
I think only externalities should be regulated by governments and not full and total redistribution. I see the push to systems that favor a total socialism as a push into the very thing he fears, as I do. When I hear him shout about destroying companies because they unfairly lock users into crapware, as well as use there Money/Power to do what anyone would do, what is in there best self interest, I cringe inside. No I am not happy that all the work TR did in busting the Trusts has been undone. But we should fix that in the system we have now, not destroy what little bits of the free market we have. Punishment for the sake of enjoyment is what I hear when I listen to his personal politics and that is what I don't like. Lets just be rational.
HoochTHX··on Ask HN: Getting paid to work on open source full-time?
Yes I would. With the recent revalations reguarding the total disreguard of basic human rights, I see no other choice except fully open ecosystem designed to empower the user, and keep them Free. I personally hate Stahlams politics but he was right, and as he was right early, he was shunned, but now his idea is right for right now.
HoochTHX··on Dark Wallet Will Make Bitcoin Accessible for All, Except the Feds
Anyone else notice that that is the same guy who was behind Defense Distributed? I haven't heard anything about him since he was served with a notice that he was violating the ITAR laws.
