1969 even has a single record of a boy called Sue, entered by a Mr. J. Cash.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Why It's So Hard to Add a Column in the Middle of a PostgreSQL Table
> Product asks for an email column, and because you like a tidy schema, you want it right after name

But why? SQL is supposed to be declarative, the whole point is that you don't need to care about such trivia. Only when you care about the order in a _result_ do you specify so.

HowTheStoryEnds··on Louis Rossmann offers to pay legal fees for a threatened OrcaSlicer developer
No, dude, open source and more specifically GPL is intended to keep things open and accessible to everyone and out of control of monopoly actors, not to drive state of the art.

Can you agree on not stealing? That's the equivalent of what BL is doing.

Dude, the only reason you can be a maker is because of the many hours of work provided by the open source community. The very same one your support is trampling on since it's in favor of a company profiteering from them. All because you don't want to be inconvenienced.. Educate yourself on the issue and start having some respect.

Bambu Labs is completely ignoring their legal duties under the AGPL code they used while trying to make others comply to their licensing terms through abuse of the legal system.

Nobody forced them to use said code, they chose to when it was in their best interest and now they renege on the part in the license (the only thing that gives them a right to use and build on said code) when they deem it not in their interest any longer and think they're big enough to squash individuals protesting.

Nothing wrong there, right, chairman?

Where can I get the source code they modified?
HowTheStoryEnds··on EU Parliamentary Research Service calls VPNs "a loophole that needs closing"
Won't they just be able to identify the traffic at his local internet provider as being suitable for a VPN usage match and send 'law enforcement' over?

HowTheStoryEnds··on Study: 61 UK firms tried a 4-day workweek and after a year, they still love it
Your worklocation is mir and it's you that goes remote, you don't go remoting. Just like a drill rig. ;)
HowTheStoryEnds··on Proposed UN cybercrime treaty has evolved into an expansive surveillance tool
He'll still need you or your parents to get to his money.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Why do programmers need private offices with doors?
You can actually act rationally on fake, imagined and fraudulent data.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Don't Spy EU

They're not afraid because they know eventually it would culminate into a 0 - instant - "you win the game." card in the end. ;-)
HowTheStoryEnds··on One week of empathy training (2019)
When in doubt: choose your kids. Hours in deficit only compound when stability and familial love is concerned.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Ask HN: Stuck as a developer for 15 years. How to become a manager?
Do you approve your own leave or do they?
HowTheStoryEnds··on Is ORM still an anti-pattern?
You obviously use 2 precisely configured screwdrivers, so one screwdriver can hit the other when the nail requests it, like a multilevel cache.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Distractions Cause Bad Code (2018)
Damn, hadn't heard of that. I use ANC headphones a lot.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Distractions Cause Bad Code (2018)
Isn't tinnitus what you might get from eardamage from excessive sustained volume and such? Wouldn't ANC headphones be the counter to that?
HowTheStoryEnds··on Disqualified from a National Web Design Competition for Using GitHub
Probably because they googled 'list of html template creators ' and this was that which came out as a result on some random site they got presented as the first link.

Depends on the work bubble you're in, I've definitely seen places where following asinine rules tempted getting shit done because of the power of gave the enforcer and the disconnect they had themselves from the results of success.

Mostly.gov but some private places that are big enough without true oversight as well

HowTheStoryEnds··on Re-License Vaultwarden to AGPLv3
That would be acting in bad faith.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Why is remote work seen as a gift?
No because the pool of workers at that company vs the others combined is small. This in turn will make entry in that pool excessively competitive which again will serve to drive down the wages in that pool. Once the tiny pool is saturated they might as well benefit from entering with the others in agreement as well.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Dutch employee fired by U.S. firm for shutting off webcam awarded €75K in court
> Sounds like you would support a policy of income based on your personal expenses. Should the programmer with 5 kids make more than the programmer with no kids simply because the programmer with kids has more expenses?

First time in Europe? That's pretty much a given here, more kids = bigger tax break = more netto pay.

HowTheStoryEnds··on Oncall Compensation for Software Engineers
Because at a certain point: time > cash.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Oncall Compensation for Software Engineers
Because it chips away at one of the only valuable things you have: autonomy and peace during your leisure time. That exact thing the fruits of your labor actually are supposed to prop up and maintain.
HowTheStoryEnds··on Ask HN: Why do companies not list your weaknesses in rejection emails?
Perception vs reality. What in reality is just an objectively fine reason can be spun into a totally different perspective.
