Jackobrien··on How employment is changing at Anthropic
“Junior” is the wrong distinction to make. I’ve recently worked with senior engineers who are terrible at wielding agents, and recent grad engineers who multiple themselves 100x. The main way I look for software engineers now are:

- Deep curiosity and ability to absorb new information quickly - Evidence of ability to wield and coordinate agents to the max - Ability to clearly communicate ideas

You have these skills, you can conquer the software world.

Jackobrien··on Ultramarine 1 Flash
These guys are awesome and I’m really impressed. The model alone looks great (according to benchmarks), and very cool they’ve done so much in building out the harness of top of it all.
Jackobrien··on Eye of Sauron: Long-Range Hidden Spy Camera Detection
This feels very impactful for national security and corporate espionage.
Jackobrien··on Cursor Origin
Diabolical timing. Incredible. Too bad it requires mirroring GitHub.
Jackobrien··on Leave your screen unlocked, meet developers paypal.com
I like the story, I really can’t stand the way you used AI to write this. The story is great! But I genuinely cannot tell what you actually think. Too much over-wording and cheesy phrasing.
Jackobrien··on Auto-research with codex: How I achieved a 232x Faster Kernel
Damn! If a solo engineer can do this, it makes the most around OAI/Anthropic start to look pretty weak.
Jackobrien··on Advertise in ChatGPT
Now you’re the product three times: you pay, they steal your dada, they show you ads. Have to make money somehow
Jackobrien··on Meta removes AI feature on Instagram after global backlash
If you choose to be public (small % of accounts), this can happen anyways. I don’t see it as a big problem
Jackobrien··on The first early human eggs from stem cells
Really interesting point if true. Makes sense to me, and I’m sure the team is trying to solve it
Jackobrien··on DSpark: Speculative decoding accelerates LLM inference [pdf]
I see a world soon where there’s an extremely wide variety of small models for speculative decoding, unique to use cases, companies, and even individuals.
Jackobrien··on The unbearable cheapness of open weight models
The giants knew this was coming, and soon 95% of AI tasks will be able to be done by open models (coding, research, cowork style work). So why pay a premium? Why use them at all? This leaves the labs with two options:

1) push the frontier in a way only massive scale can, and cash in on it (mythos level cyber security, recursive training, frontier science work). There’s big money for never before possible capabilities.

2) own the app layer with their edge in reputation and powered by their infrastructure. Be apple where everyone else is Linux. Do design, coding, research, SMBs, legal, finance, healthcare and more (they are doing all of this).

Will it be enough to justify a Google level valuation? We’ll see how fast they can push it.

Jackobrien··on Markdy: Like Mermaid Diagrams, but for Motion
This is really cool. Can imagine vibe creating scenes quickly. If the animation was a bit smoother, I could see this being used all over.
Jackobrien··on Show HN: A terminal-native web search agent built with the Subconscious SDK
Pretty cool! Love the Subconscious API!
Jackobrien··on Plasmo – A framework for building modern Chrome extensions
Experimented with Plasmo in April and found it super easy to use! Was surprised I hadn’t heard about it until I went looking.
Jackobrien··on Vercel's AI Accelerator
How'd you get the 15k for OpenAI?? Would love to apply for the same credits
Jackobrien··on Templated Prompts Your Dad Will Love
Introducing LowTech AI, AI tools for everyone.

A well thought out templated prompt for an LLM is essentially an AI tool, so that's how we're thinking about them. Signup to use simple AI tools, or show off your skills as a prompt engineer!

Jackobrien··on Refer a startup, own equity in that startup
Refer your friend's company to OnePager.vc for a chance to own equity in that company.

Anyone has the chance to own part of a startup, that means you too. Just need an email to get started, so we can contact you for referral updates.

We provide a built out presentation tool (think DocSend specifically for fundraising), exposure to 1000+ investors, and raise SPVs for notable companies that are attracting attention on our platform. If we raise an SPV for a company you refer, we'll give you 25% of our carried interest.
