Your dismissal has a magnitude less logical coherence than your premise.

"Democracy is when people vote the way I do, silencing them isn't censorship, youre all fascist/racist/*-phobic"

Pretending to pretend to care is even worse by any objective standard; do you not see the moral qualm you have indebted your own pathos?

  >What about videos being different?
The obvious juxtaposition between supposed "viral videos" and the organic ones. Now that art has been refined, MSM will cover organic ones as well - signal to noise, manufactured consent.

Kinda what a nation state would do.

And this is why we have watch dogs, resource monitoring, and kill buttons during the training of the H100's.

One training inference gone AWOL and it is well within plausibility that we have doomed ourselves before the circuits trip and the red lights glows.

I do not mean to discount this interesting iota, however, I had a similar realization when I was 7; whether it coinciding with learning of the Copernicus principle is merit or raw luck notwithstanding, I saw my siblings as none other than another family in another house: all others would view me, and us, as neighbors, and we are all side-characters in each others story.

That thought is "sonder" - although it differs from what you describe, it has some parallels.

Jerrrrry··on Helen Keller on her life before self-consciousness (1908)
Very cool.

I happen to be with Sagan on this one, although these ideas certainly are not mutually exclusive; in fact they are complimentary.

Consciousness is an innate emergent phenomenon that happens when you combine basic memory/context, recall, the collective evolutionary unconscious, and so many magnitudes of neurons.

In fact, he even gives dogs (and to some degree, cats) the exactly same specific pedigree of obviously being self-aware/conscious, yet commanding the traits that align with the most basic tenants of "religion": your dog thinks you are a fucking god.

Jerrrrry··on Two B.C. companies ordered to shut down on national security grounds
Chilling effect, sure.

But between youtube, cheap IR cameras, 10k-Neuron-Net running on a raspberry pi, github open source swarming algos, extremely cheap 3'D printing, hap-hazard innocuous chemicals, and a global ubiquitous surveillance state...

A "sufficiently motivated citizen" could literally walk down the street, encounter an altercation, and snap their fingers, and have their opponent 'neutralized' within seconds, all with off the shelf hardware and open source software, right now.

These people exist, but do we really want to stir them?

Us. Our intentional false projection of insecurity is just another layer of obfuscation.

Leveraging "hidden" risk/reward asymmetries is another avenue completely that applies to both quant/HFT, adding a dimension that turns this into a pretty complex spectrum with plenty of opportunities.

The old joke of two economists ignoring a possible $100 bill on the sidewalk is an ironic adage. There are hundreds of bills on the sidewalk, the real problem is prioritizing which bills to pick up before the 50mph steamroller blindsides those courageous enough to dare play.

  >why do so many people remember
  >I suppose it also came at a time for a lot of us where things seemed to wedge into our brains more easily.
The ~2million years we spent around campfires, repeating oral traditions of our forefathers, instilled a phonetic/rhythmic/mnemonic mechanism of action for remembering "arbitrary" information.

That is why recalling phone numbers, large (mentally untoken-able) words, and the digits of PI all are far easier when done in the sing-song fashion - it is utilizing the highly-optimized linguistic/recall portion, we evolved to handle the near-rote-memorization required to allow our culture to survive.

meta, but the ironic juxtaposition of this sentiment is incredibly far too unsubtle as to not warrant its authenticity.

I would give a comparable analogy, but I am unable.

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and truly subjective, than this is truly an illogical, human sentiment.
