I doubt that was the point the OP tried to make about being frightened by religious people. If someone can believe something without proof that was written down 2000 years ago then they can believe almost anything. That's scary to someone who isn't religious. It's just completely alien.

I hope you all do what I do when you see Frank's messages on any thread related to my project. Just lick your index finger, point it at Frank's username and then say, "Ooooooooooooo ICE COLD! Mama thinks you're a BAAAAD BOYYYY! OOOOOO Ice Cold..." then point the same finger back at your left nipple and make a sizzling sound "SSSSSssssssssssss" and sing this little rap

Yeah, I understand kickstarters position fairly well now.

What you and most others miss is that people don't really care about the right of things when they pirate. It's a non-issue.

Then again Netflix isn't available in Europe and there are huge holes in the catalogue of any streaming service. With that said I think Netflix will be huge in Europe or at least in my native Sweden. As for your pirate bay experience here is how it goes today: 1. Search for content. 2. Sort by seeders. 3. Click magnet link. 4. Start streaming from uTorrent.

That's not even near true. Many people are completely oblivious about their weight. Though I highly doubt you will do anything but hurting them by telling them that they're fat.

That depends on how much hardware you want to spread it out on. Many companies would have to hire a hadoop guy, then again some companies would have to hire a sysadmin to to run the Oyster solution. Build your storage to fit your company.

I agree, that just should not happen unless the server was a complete lemon or badly assembled.

That sounds like a terrible data center. If you count a server short circuit with some minor smoke as a fire I guess it's understandable. The server room should have Halon/Inergen or a similar system with smoke detectors.

Building your own solution to beat S3 is certainly viable but at this scale I doubt it.

More to the point the topic wasn't really about obscure bugs in ruby. The backend was failing due to getting slammed which admittedly could make some nasty bugs surface.

What I think the main problem was is that you answered someone in an emergency with a probably unrelated blog link.

Of course they're responsible and that's why five of them were sent to prison.

What the bankers did was bribing officals into taking bad advice at hiked rates leading to a 30-40 year loan having to be paid off in a tenth of that time. THIS is what's leading to the impending bankrupcy.

I cannot fathom why the investment bankers involved haven't been sent to prison for a very long time. They were the ones who started this whole ordeal. No bribes = no horrible decisions = no bankrupcy = no porta pottys. While I agree that bankers in general are being blamed for most everything that's been going wrong in the world in the last few years this time it really was their fault. Not only theirs but they should be more than fined.

Ban the line pushers or at least probate them for a fortnight. There is no reason to allow someone to take up your time by making you wonder if you should ban or not ban.

The point of the article wasn't how fast the query ran, nor is the hardware specified. Without that information any assessment of speed is meaningless.

I consider mail a critical tool and thus I have no qualms paying money for it. I'm using Exchange Online from Microsoft. I use Outlook so that obviously affects my choice.

DISCLAIMER: I have family working at Microsoft.

I haven't used Gmail in several years so I don't know if it offers anything not offered by other services. Smart, simple to manage email is available in abundance these days.

Google search on the other hand is to me at least the epitome of function. I don't even think about how often I use it but it's many many times per day.

Seeing as it is legal to share files non-commercially in Switzerland I'd say that worldwide is a stretch.

It's also getting there in other countries. The momentum is behind the sharing, not behind the institutions upholding the barricades.
