But I especially think your last point about old people is really both false and irrelevant. If I wanted to troll, I could say it's really dumb, just americans being americans.
Moreover, 4k access is not guaranteed. Recently Disney+ removed it completely here in France due to some legal thing with the HEVC codec.
Avoids the infinite scroll with the mood "ugh I have nothing to watch", and it is infinitely nicer to choose with your kid/spouse/friend/etc from a physical list of choices rather than a list of thumbnails with search bar in 3 or 4 different apps
I cannot think that yet another service will be the solution, especially considering the market is already extremely fragmented and each service is getting more expensive and have tiers. Eventually, affordability might catch up with convenience (although arguably piracy might short circuit both).
Here we are talking about something with consequences in the digital world, usually on something pretty niche.
There IS an argument about pacing, and about not letting weapons, energy grids, hospitals, etc. getting managed by an autonomous AI, but I think we are still pretty far from it and even further to it being so in charge that it will obliterate us.
The hugging face is hardly a warning shot of anything close to that scale. For now, I don't see (not saying there's not, I'm trying to also understand why these smart people think like that) any indication that the current development of AI will be as dangerous as some describe.
I understand the idea that if we let it control nukes, if we let it fully decides if a med is safe, etc. It poses a huge risk. But honestly I really don't see indications that it's going majorly this way, nor that it has anywhere the capacity to do something that big. It found a zero day and hacked a niche website, ok, so what?
This feels like a diversion from the actual existing and proven problem of all the problematic practices it's actually built on.
I would adhere way more to "we need to pace Ai because it could be catastrophic for society (jobs, cognition, loneliness,...) and environment" than "it has the potential to kill us all"
But saying it will bring us to doom, comparing it to an extinction-level event, really ? I don't see in which world AI is that kind of risk.
I'd rather my politicians finally have some long-term plan about climate and energy than focus on AI slowdown or not. Climate change is way bigger risk right now that Opus 7

In most countries which don't have the advantages of Australia or Finland, you do need a mix as the OP was saying
Germany activated coal to reduce dependance on gas, and Germany exported energy to France because of the maintainances ; you know, the old correlation =/= causation.
That one occurence over 4 decades, I would say we can dare to call it pretty reliable
I'm also curious where the discuss part comes from, because I guess you don't just let them start on a basic prompt without any context
HyDRA: Hybrid Dynamic Routing Architecture for Heterogeneous LLM Pools : https://arxiv.org/pdf/2605.17106
I had a "discussion" on this exact subject with Claude recently, trying to figure out how to do it. The final suggestion was a mix of a regular small tablet (control center), e-ink tablet (like trmnl) for a couple status dashboards, and the part that i found the most interesting: electronic shelf labels.
There is a protocol called OpenEPaperLink that has native integration for HA, and then you can buy various size of tags on sites like AliExpress.
I have not yet tested it so it's just an LLM output for now, but I do like the idea.
As someone who now has to review so much slop in PRs, I can absolutely relate to the experience of Pascale, their fact checker.
