Nice. Reminded me of the Mississippi meander maps.

Kaibeezy··on Why Nothing Looks Cool Anymore [video]
Thanks for chiming in here.

This video went way beyond the boundaries of its premise to ask the same kind of questions you did about “where our humanity is”. I often say that when (if) historians look back from 10,000 years in the future there will be general agreement that the period from the late 1950s through the early 2000s will turn out to have been the best patch of human existence — the time when the throttle of possibilities was suddenly wide open and politico-corporate control systems hadn’t yet figured out how to clamp down again. Kaibeezy··on Rethinking legal education in the AI era
The posted article is about law school, but the comments are focusing on practice. These overlap but are not the same.

“Lawyer” is one of many possible career paths. Law graduates are uniquely qualified as premium law-aware generalists. In my opinion, there is no better education to prepare for future business uncertainty.

Noting with mirth the name of the president of the teachers’ union, Ms Person, quoted as being anti- this sort of thing.

Kaibeezy··on The Xteink X4 E-Ink Reader
OMG, e-ink = FRONTlight, not backlight. /pedantry

They have an S4 coming out with frontlight and Android. Would be great if it supports scrolling like a Boox Palma but at 1/6 the price.

Kaibeezy··on Europeans should learn to love the air-conditioner
It seems like such an obvious conclusion. The article says the power demand for air conditioning, even at high levels of adoption, would be a “rounding error” within overall consumption. Why suffer?

Kaibeezy··on Where are all the UK red telephone kiosks?
How about:

  - tap-to-pay paypoints
  - drive-under toll collection readers
  - signal-blocking phone pouches at concerts
  - anti-facial-recognition dazzle makeup
  - wireless chargers in the table at McDonald’s
Kaibeezy··on Where are all the UK red telephone kiosks?
If curious why I posted this:

  - someone told me about a fish—n-chip buffet in Arbroath, Scotland
  - I told my team, one of them asked “just fish?”
  - I replied “batter fried pizza too”
  - one of them made the inevitable comment about defibrillators
  - I pointed out many of these red kiosks have been repurposed to hold defibrillators and went looking for images

Kaibeezy··on Filing the corners off my MacBooks
After RSI years ago, I switched to an X220 and had 100% the opposite experience. The curve at the front of the case was a perfect resting point for the heel of my (average size) hand to allow easy reach of the keys. I replicated this geometry by sanding a pine 1x4 and wrapping that in soft leather for a wrist rest with a procession of mechanical keyboards (currently a Lenco Majestouch 2). Literally decades later, all is well.
