Koshkin··on NetBSD adds a new text editor called atto
> `w_doto` for `cursorOffset`

Well, sometimes we call the cursor "the dot."

Koshkin··on BioWare Is Shutting Down
BioShock Infinite is a masterpiece.
Koshkin··on Wine ported to OpenBSD
This wasn't a joke. It is well-known that Wine is the best and the most stable implementation of the Win32 API out there (closely followed by ReactOS).
Koshkin··on A Visual Intro to Complex Numbers
> came clearly recently. They're just...

I assure you this is not the last enlightening moment that you are going have about what the complex numbers are.

> Geometric Algebra

Ah... Haven's heard about that one in quite some time...

Koshkin··on Nobel Prize in Physics 2026: Francis Halzen
If it did they should get the Novel prize.
Koshkin··on Nobel Prize in Physics 2026: Francis Halzen
A cubic kilometer is a volume, it does not dictate the shape.
Koshkin··on Making a GTK application in Haskell, part 1
Is a widget a monad? Anyway, the examples in this tutorial are another proof that Haskell is the best imperative language!

Koshkin··on OpenAI GPT–6 Astra breaks Enigma message that has resisted solution since 2005
Is it even possible for the same cyphertext to encode different messages using different keys?
Koshkin··on ReactOS 0.4.16
Why, this could be a fun excrement for sure
Koshkin··on ReactOS 0.4.16

Koshkin··on ReactOS 0.4.16
> lets you run macOS software

> must be running a 64-bit x86

Koshkin··on ReactOS 0.4.16
> a new DC21X4 network adapter driver

Hasn't the point been for the OS to be compatible with the existing Windows drivers?

Koshkin··on So you want to learn physics (second edition, 2021)
The Feynman Lectures and/or Berkeley Physics Course [1] would give one the basics one would ever need.

Koshkin··on Asahi Linux 7.1 Progress Report
> If there was a Linux Apple App Store, I would buy stuff from it.

I believe you.

> I already buy from Steam.

I believe this even more.

Koshkin··on What five simple habits can do over 35 years
> Healthy lifestyles: 21 or less units of alcohol per week

Looks Good

Koshkin··on An OpenAI model has disproved a central conjecture in discrete geometry
> we have created operations

It seems that addition (for instance) was "created" long before us.

On the other hand, it seems highly unlikely that a civilization similar to ours could "invent" an essentially different kind of mathematics (or physics, etc.)

Koshkin··on Googlebook
A fun name... (I wonder how many non-native English speakers realize that the two occurrences of 'oo' in 'googlebook' are not pronounced the same.)
Koshkin··on If AI writes your code, why use Python?
For some reason it took a while for Copilot to write an executable machine code for Hello World.
Koshkin··on What's a mathematician to do? (2010)

> buying a single large capacity drive

Now that's a terrible idea. You shouldn't trust any single device with terabytes of your data, regardless of whether it is low-cost or Chinese.

Koshkin··on Category Theory Illustrated – Types
> in the way you are linking them

This is what the text says, not me.

Koshkin··on Category Theory Illustrated – Types
> In one system, a set can contain itself

But doesn't this lead to a contradiction (or to making the system of little use)?

Koshkin··on Category Theory Illustrated – Types
> category theory can use set theory, but does not depend on it

But aren't, say, the morphisms between two objects necessarily a set (termed "hom-set")?

Koshkin··on Category Theory Illustrated – Types
Except such set is empty and thus does not contain itself.
Koshkin··on Category Theory Illustrated – Types
> a set can contain itself

Can it?

> a term can have only one type... Due to this law, types cannot contain themselves

Doesn't look like one follows from the other...

Koshkin··on Category Theory Illustrated – Types
... and, as such, it doesn't contain itself!
Koshkin··on Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom
Parents do not have to be "experts in chilhood development" to know what is best for their children. Especially experts in their fields like the manufacturing of alcohol, guns or other products universallly considered dangerous.
Koshkin··on 15 years, one server, 8GB RAM and 500k users – how Webminal refuses to die
Quite often clients were more powerful than servers. Hell, at one point a CPU embedded into a printer could be faster than, say, 8088. An X server (running on the client side) often required a more powerful machine than one running X clients (i.e. a server). A web browser is not an exception.
