LetsGetTechnicl··on How Google determines the names for bodies of water in Google Earth (2008)
Who else does it apply to?
LetsGetTechnicl··on My Favourite Laptop
That was my first Mac! I loved it but those bezels were a doozy. I think that same form factor with a larger screen would be perfect. Although I wonder how close the Neo compares.
LetsGetTechnicl··on How Google determines the names for bodies of water in Google Earth (2008)
I miss when we didn't have a deranged pedophile dementia patient in the white house...
LetsGetTechnicl··on Google determines the names for bodies of water in Google Earth (2008)
He's literally "joked" about it
LetsGetTechnicl··on Run full iOS 16.5 firmware on Android Devices
I'm getting exhausted from all these AI vibe coded projects. Like this is cool, sure, but it's less cool than if someone had figured out how to do it themselves instead of having Claude do it. It's like chasing the dragon but for coding projects.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Jailbreaking the Switch 2
That's true, but Nintendo has been good about this. You can still download your digital purchases from the Wii, Wii U and 3DS stores just fine.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Jailbreaking the Switch 2
I mean the GKC is a compromise considering the high cost of larger storage capacities for carts, driven especially by AI. They're just upfront about it. Sony and MS have been doing "game key discs" for years now but didn't provide a clear label for it.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Jailbreaking the Switch 2
After the initial download, it doesn't need to do any online checks if you have the key card inserted. That's kind of the whole, the card is the key.
LetsGetTechnicl··on AI lab offers free plumbing and HVAC repairs across three cities to train robots
Doing electric work based on solely on LLM output sounds like a recipe for disaster.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Tesla Roadster
Saw pictures of its undercarriage on Twitter and it looks like it well have been a empty shell of a car
LetsGetTechnicl··on Tesla Roadster
Who is the impressive to? 12 year old boys and Elon Musk?
LetsGetTechnicl··on Do dentists know what they're doing?
>One dentist I saw for a number of years would try to insist I needed a dental implant for a missing molar and if I didn't all my teeth were going to come out alignment.

I'm in the same situation! I had an impacted molar when I got my wisdom teeth removed, and this dentist who is otherwise okay mentions it every time. I'm skeptical of its necessity and nice to see someone in the same boat

LetsGetTechnicl··on Show HN: Let your AI agents paint big arrows, boxes and text on your screen
Really groundbreaking stuff guys, another $100 billion to you
LetsGetTechnicl··on Sharing AI progress in mathematics
Sure I just have a bad taste in my mouth after those researchers were working on one of the millennium problems for a while, had used ChatGPT for assistance and then OpenAI claimed they had solved it.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Sharing AI progress in mathematics
And I'm sure none of it was stolen from the actual researchers...
LetsGetTechnicl··on Memory executives expect RAM shortage to continue through 2028
Is there anyone in the AI sector that is making profit and re-investing it? I guess that really only applies to Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc. that other lines of business to prop up their AI divisions, vs. companies like OpenAI and Anthrophic. I wonder where NVIDIA will land...
LetsGetTechnicl··on Memory executives expect RAM shortage to continue through 2028
I'm sensing sarcasm but is it not true that the scale of obligations is unsustainable?

As for preparation, I'm not sure. I have a 401k that I'm worried about. I'm too young to really remember the dotcom bubble, let alone have any stake in the stock market at the time.

LetsGetTechnicl··on Memory executives expect RAM shortage to continue through 2028
Yeah there was just a story about how there are hundreds of billions of dollars in "non-cancellable" debt obligations to build AI data centers. But they're building far beyond current demand, I feel like the collapse is inevitable.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Wall Street Is Growing Skeptical of the Data Center Boom
The idea that everything will be fine after the data centers file for bankruptcy seems a bit naive
LetsGetTechnicl··on Wall Street Is Growing Skeptical of the Data Center Boom
Yeah but general purpose data centers that allow hobbyists to spin up an app or a service easily is exactly that: general purpose. AI data centers are built for the very specific kind of math that LLM's require. Even the GPU's can't even be used for something like cloud gaming, which isn't very popular anyways.
LetsGetTechnicl··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
Probably has something to do with the recent anti-science movement that currently has our country and government in a chokehold.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Apple Mac mini review
On the price hikes on RAM and everything else we're still looking for the guys that did this...
LetsGetTechnicl··on ER visits for gambling disorders doubled after expanded online gambling market
And I imagine you've never experienced a Canadian ER, so what now?
LetsGetTechnicl··on ER visits for gambling disorders doubled after expanded online gambling market
You also wait a looooong time to get treatment at an ER in the US too, unless you're actively dying, and sometimes even if you are.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Hackers Got Inside a Flock Camera
Really hoping some good guy hacker manages to take them all down somehow
LetsGetTechnicl··on Apple's Siri AI Can Be Swapped Out for Claude, ChatGPT, Code Shows
Agreed. I'm not looking forward to iOS 27 where basically the only option is this new Siri. I was perfectly content with using the old "dumb" Siri to set timers, turn on a light and control my Apple TV and nothing else.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
Good reminder to delete my Facebook account
LetsGetTechnicl··on Shutting down our public encrypted DNS
I set up a WireGuard VPN and use that to connect back to my home network. It's fast enough for what I do on my phone.
LetsGetTechnicl··on Shutting down our public encrypted DNS
Yeah I have a VPN set up. I don't have the best internet so sometimes it's slow (mostly just app downloads seem to take the longest, so I'll just disable it and then re-enable it.) But it works just fine for streaming, including video
LetsGetTechnicl··on Shutting down our public encrypted DNS
I've been loving the Pihole setup I just set up. It uses Quad9 as the upstream provider and then I do all the blocking myself. I used to use NextDNS but this is so much better and free!
